Halifax card protection

My mum had Sentinel card protection for many years and at some point that was changed by Halifax to their own product automatically. Clearly we now know that this product was unnecessary. Has anyone had success in reclaiming? We wrote to Halifax but somehow they seem to think we are reclaiming PPI.
