Had Mortgage Protection can i try to reclaim MPPI

Don't know if anyone can help

I had a mortgage a few years ago and had mortgage ppi, I lost my job in a bank and went to apply for protection but got told I wasn't covered as I was in a sales role? I took out this policy through a IFA who knew I was in a sales role when I took out the policy.

Do I have any grounds for making a mortgage PPi claim if I can ?

thanks for your help in advance

Your sales job is irrelevant so no.
  • dam, Was kind of hoping maybe it could be classed as mis-sold oh well

You'd need to complain to the broker who sold it you - if they knew you worked in sales and got you a policy that didn't cover sales staff then it would seem rather pointless cover to me

Sam Vimes' Boots Theory of Socioeconomic Unfairness:

People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.

Did you buy this before or after regulation began? (Jan 2005)

Did you lose your job because of lack of sales or redundancy?
    if redundancy, was it voluntary?

Sales roles are covered with most MPPI. However, a claim will be rejected if you fail to meet any of the performance standards or targets laid down by your employer.

So, its unlikely you were rejected because you were in a sales role. More likely the claim was rejected due to the nature of how you lost your job.

  • no it wasn't for anything like that I left sales to go and work at a well known Scottish bank, and it wasn't as a sales role it was just on the counter as a teller, so it was quite strange when they said it was a sales role when I tried to claim. the other main thing is I cant find any of the paperwork either, When I mention it when I was contacted by a claims company they said I had grounds for a missold claim.
  • also this was before the regulation I took out the mortgage and the protection from 2001 til 2006
  • You would seem to have a complaint that the claim was turned down but not that the plan was missold.

That complaint would be against the insurance company, not whoever sold you the policy.

Claims companies will tell you anything to get you signed up with them. However, any sane person would say that, based on what you have told us, you have given no indication of mis-sale. However, you do appear to have grounds for complaint about the handling of the claim.

That said, you haven't clarified why you left the job. Redundancy from a bank would not prevent a claim on the policy unless it was voluntary or being sacked.
