Sewing machines (Bernina in particular) - suitable oils?
Seems to be a lot of controversy about this online - the correct oil to use for expensive sewing machines such as Bernina. 3 in 1 oil is widely available but probably not suitable? Then there are options such as these:…

Thai red curry
Thinking of having a go at cooking a thai red curry for a change instead of an indian one. What side dishes do you have with a thai curry? rice, bread, salad?

Apple store prices - Ireland cheaper than UK
Has anyone else noticed that the Apple Store .ie is cheaper than .co.uk? The Apple Watch 44mm Series 4 GPS is €469 on the Irish site and £429 GBP (€501 using Revolut) on the UK site. This is quite unusual as I've always used the UK site significant savings in the past.

Moving flats and food organisation
Hi, I am moving flats in two weeks time, have finally got a flat back where I used to live before and regretted moving. At the moment I have a table top cooker, a microwave and a 1.5 litre slow cooker. My cooking habits are hit and miss and I do rely on ready meals a lot, hence getting rid of the full size cooker I once…

Yellow Label Reduced Items
I usually only shop in the big supermarkets as my local shops are so expensive. At Tesco's I sometimes get the yellow label reduced items which I am happy with generally. A few months ago I ran out of something and went to one of the local shops and noticed that they now do yellow label reduced items so I decided to go to…

Greying underwear
Any magic solutions for bringing back some rather greying but perfectly good underwear back to a nice white condition again? Will soaking in Vanish or bleach do the trick?. Am rather worried bleach might damage the elastic parts. Thanks.

Melted stove top, any advice?
Hi all, De lurking as at lunchtime I put a plastic lid on a hot stove top. Doh! I have a ceramic stove top. I didn't notice and by the time I did it had cooled down. I removed the lid whilst looking at how to clean the plastic off as I assumed some of it would be stuck to the plate. Unfortunately the plastic lid has…

Weekly Flylady Thread 29th April 2019
Welcome to the Weekly Flylady Thread What is FLYLADY? Well, it's our version of the US flylady idea - but we work on the principle that housework is not fun, it's boring, can be time-consuming, is often thankless but, unfortunately, necessary. It's here on Old Style to provide the support we all need and to make the whole…

Its (probably) gone....
Went to do some early morning laps of Regent’s Park and on the way through Marylebone high street I noticed that my favourite home furnishing shop in London had bailiff notices in the window. Am so sad. I really don’t know how physical shops these days can survive unless they use Mike Ashley business ethics. As I said....…

Swimming lengths: how many have I done now?
Posting a little idea I thought of the other day in case it saves someone else money. I recently started going swimming again and aim at 40 lengths per session. Often I would get halfway through and lose count of how many I had done so far today. I looked online for help but only found expensive electronic swim watches and…

Cheaper to make or buy red pesto?
Hi all, so my kids love red pesto on pasta as a cheap meal but as I use a whole bar every time I’m wondering if it would be cheaper to make a big batch of it? If so does anyone have a good recipe and how would I store it when made? Thanks in advance Sam
