Old Style Daily Friday 3rd May

This is is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

    Good morning everyone :hello:
It's going to be another lovely day I think here, the sun is starting to come up and it is a lot less windy than the past few days. Steve, Lilly and Lee are all fast asleep but Phoebe is getting herself ready for work as she leaves at 5.50am to start at 6.30 ish.

Steve has recovered remarkably well from his cataract surgery and it has already made a huge difference to his eyesight. He is really looking forward to getting his other eye done now in about a year's time. He has a couple of weeks off which will do him the world of good.

In other news, Steve went to town and came back with some beautiful plants for me to look after. I have an aloe vera, a baby spider plant and a peace lily. They are all looking lovely and healthy at the moment and give me such a lot of joy. I will be looking for some nice pots to put them in next.

I think my sister is coming to see me today, my mum and my lovely friend visited yesterday so I have had lots of company. My mum took the last doll I knitted to give to my niece and she loved it so that was great. I am halfway through another one but fortunately there are quite a few little ones in our family so she will have a great home as well.

We are having pork loin chops for dinner tonight. I will probably cover them with stuffing as that is very tasty and we will have them with veg and boiled potatoes. I also have a gammon joint that needs to be cooked today so I will pop it into the oven when the chops are cooking.

Well that is all my waffle for today, hope you all have a great day whatever you are up to, take care xx

    Thanks for the start dumpling.

Well done taff, it's been a long slog for you.

Up early, I'm going to the Netherlands after work with 3 friends, DS2 and gf are going away for the weekend so we can stay at his place. Really looking forward to it but the weather doesn't look too good. Won't really matter, we can have fun anyway.

Housework and washing all up to date for a change.

Glad your DM enjoyed her fish and chips Gers.

Have a good weekend, take care. Xx

Morning folks and thanks DUMPLING for the start. Sadly it's not a nice start here. Evidence of o/n rain and now looks just gloomy.

DUMPLING good luck with the plants. I was given a Peace Lily when Bob died and it stills look as fresh as it did then. They don't need much looking after at all. A bit of water now and then but don't over water.

As expected the little meeting and service of reflection at the hospice yesterday was very moving and, of course, many tears were shed by a lot of people, not just me. At the same time it was lovely with volunteers serving tea, coffee, scones and biscuits whilst the Chaplain circulated and chatted to us individually. So all in all I was glad I went.

I have the flipping Friday Tidy to do today and, once the DGDs have been dispatched to school, I must get cracking straight away as I have the hairdresser coming about 1.00 and want to be organised.

CAMELOT your w/e sounds lovely - enjoy. GERS so uplifting to read of DM with her fish and chips - who can resist the smell of fish and chips! TAFF I hope you enjoyed a day of rest yesterday. AOD good luck with the move and I hope you are happy in your new abode. I hope there is no reverse burgling for your DH to do in order to peg out the washing!

Time to be thinking of a quick shower now and then rousing the DGDs in readiness for the mayhem of them getting ready for school. Have a good day folks if you canand ((HUGS)) for all who need them. SILVER-OLDIE hope things are as well as they can be for you. Take care all xx

Lovely day here but a bit nippy, off to work for me and its a very hard Friday group ( I dread Fridays !!) wine is in the fridge already !!

My Friday tidier will be here today so all will be clean when I get in, just the washing to do, and I think I will have something with chips for dinner will go and have a look after this.

We managed to buy one of the outside log burners they were selling in Aldi yesterday only £60 and they sold very fast apparently, so we will bbq tomorrow and light the log burner once it gets colder. :j

AOD I am quite pleased for you that you are moving, no more climbing out of the window with the washing, the back door not opening was dangerous !!!

    Good morning all

Finally got the medical cert for DM from the GP at 5pm yesterday. It took phone calls and two visits to the surgery. First appointment to register and get death certificate next Tuesday pm. This is making it so much harder.

Special thoughts to all those struggling at the moment

    Morning everyone

I’m going out shortly to the supermarket before it gets too busy. To get the few fresh things I need for the bank holiday weekend. I will have a quick look around the market while I’m out.

There is a small amount of housework to do and I hope to get that done by lunch time. I don’t have any plans for the weekend, so will probably spend it reading, watching some TV and dozing on the sofa.

TA I’m glad yesterday went ok for you. It sounds like it was very moving.

AOD the new house sounds like it will be much nicer for you.

    Camelot have a good weekend.

Redruby it sounds like you deserve your wine on a Friday evening after work

Silver-oldie I’m sorry that it is dragging out and making it harder for you.

taff don't over do it, you are still recovering!

    Have a good day everyone.

    Morning everyone,

And a Happy Friday to you all.

My day yesterday was as busy as I had planned. I went to the gym, dropped some items at the launderette, put my watch in to get fixed, made an appointment to get my haircut, phoned my gran for a while, stayed super late in work, visited the SM and filled up in petrol. Bed for 10pm.

Up early this morning and went back into the gym for a little bit. I might go a run later although I promised my boss that him and I would go for a beer after work today. It's been one of those weeks and I know he could be doing with chilling out for a bit, too. But going a run after a beer? Anyway, it'll only be 1 so it's not like I'll be stumbling all over the place haha.

My friend messaged me to say that he seen a post on social media which my step brother put up - the one which lives in South Korea - saying that he plans to come back in December and was asking if anyone had any jobs in his industry. Absolutely delighted but perplexed that most of the family had no idea he was even considering it. Anyway, fingers crossed he finds something.

Right. Best get on with my day. I'll log back on before my holiday, so enjoy your weekend everyone :)

Dumpling - You sound positive, which is lovely to hear.
    Camelot - Enjoy your trip.
TA - I was worried about you yesterday and I'm really pleased to hear that you're glad you went.
SO - They don't seem to be helping you from an emotional perspective which seems really quite backwards. Hope you're doing ok.

SO, I'm sorry you're having such difficulty, I hope it gets easier from now on, it's the last thing you need at this time.

I spent a lot of yesterday taking the quilt top that I had made apart. In my haste at the end I'd put a couple of blocks in the wrong way. I'd pondered leaving it because it didn't really affect the quilt that much but in the end decided I couldn't live with it and redid them.

Friday tidy today and we need a trip to the tip with the ginormous box the new tv arrived in. We usually store them in the loft in case we need to return anything but this wouldn't go through the hatch.

It rained several times yesterday and looks like it again but I am not complaining because it's been weeks since we've seen proper rain here.
