Melted stove top, any advice?

Hi all,

De lurking as at lunchtime I put a plastic lid on a hot stove top. Doh! I have a ceramic stove top.

I didn't notice and by the time I did it had cooled down. I removed the lid whilst looking at how to clean the plastic off as I assumed some of it would be stuck to the plate. Unfortunately the plastic lid has actually lifted part of the stove top away so there is essentially a dent where the lid was. It's not very deep, it's sort of shaved a layer off if that makes sense and is about 3 inches by 2 inches. The plate itself is larger than that.

My question is: has this happened to anyone else and would anyone know if its safe to use?

Searches have only brought up how to remove the plastic stuck to the stove top. The cooker manual brings up nothing. I can obviously call them to check but thought I would ask here first just in case!

Thanks in advance!

You might want to try the diy sub-forum as there are some clever people on there.

That said - my 2p would be a glass polishing kit. Something like this - working from rough to smooth and taking a couple of hours to buff out all the damage.

I'm basing that on a ceramic hob being basically a glass plate over electronic elements and - the way you've described it - we're talking a large scratch rather than a crack?

If I'm mistaken and there is a 'chunk' missing - you can also buy kits of putty but I don't think you can use those on the element part...
That sounds like a classic case of premature extrapolation.
