Reducing food spending when can't cook (because ill and/or no skills)
I have realised I spend far too much money on food. Some of that is because I treat myself to things I enjoy and I'm ok with spending on that sort of thing, but the majority of my spending is because I don't know how to cook and struggle with motivation and energy due to health problems. I mainly eat pasta, instant noodles…

Soap nuts query
Hi everyone I have just started using soap nuts and have done a couple of washes. I followed the instructions for hard water but find that they don't froth up hardly at all. Are they supposed to? Should I put more nuts in the wash? Thanks for any help you can offer.

washing machine smells after I tried to clean it
My washing machine was fine but I hadn't done a clean in a while so I did a 90 deg wash with just soda crystals. Now the drum really stinks and the clothes have started to smell if I don't take them out straight away. What have I done and what can I do to correct it? It was fine before I cleaned it!

Cash Envelope System
Does anyone use the envelope system for budgeting? I have started using my debit card for most things, even cups of coffee, and I find that I have lost track of where my money goes. I do look on my bank statement but its not the same as using cash. I used to just draw out cash for the month after being paid and leave money…

Weekly Flylady Thread 15th April 2019
Welcome to the Weekly Flylady Thread What is FLYLADY? Well, it's our version of the US flylady idea - but we work on the principle that housework is not fun, it's boring, can be time-consuming, is often thankless but, unfortunately, necessary. It's here on Old Style to provide the support we all need and to make the whole…

Magnetic window cleaners - any good?
I had originally posted this in quick questions, but got no response. I've also looked in the indexed collections but couldn't see anything relevant. I've sacked the window cleaner- at £8 every 4 weeks (even in winter!) Its too expensive for little reward. I have a 3 storey house (no he didn't do all the windows either!)…

not allowed to sell fresh yeast!
I've just been into a local supermarket, and I asked at the bakery if I could purchase some fresh yeast, the reply I got was "No" we are not allowed to sell it to customers. So I phone head office, and yup it's true, they are not allowed to sell it due to health and safety! Now I am sure I read somewhere that a…

Hi Not sure if this is the right place to post as couldn't find a sewing thread (:rotfl:) I have been looking for a copy of the Vogue 8280 sewing pattern, similar to the one used to make the wiggle dress in the Great British Sewing Bee. Oil Diffusers?
Hoping someone can help! I just bought an oil diffuser (yay!!) and I want to get good use out of it. It is getting towards Autumn and I love to stock up on candles and other nesting materials. I ordered a sweet orange oil and have used it once so far and it scents most of the upstairs of the house. I am hoping to use it to…
