Indian takeaway style biryani veg curry recipe
Does anyone have a recipe please? Love the one that comes with a biryani where assorted veg are chucked in. No spice or very little as far as I can detect. Love it. Would love an easy biryani recipe too if anyone has one they can recommend.

Weekly Flylady Thread 1st September 2025
What is FLYLADY? Well, it's our version of the US flylady
idea - but we work on the principle that housework is not fun, it's boring, can
be time-consuming, is often thankless but, unfortunately, necessary. It's here
on Old Style to provide the support we all need and to make the whole task
easier and quicker. We also…

Old Style Daily Sunday 07 September 2025
Morning all, A busy brain saw me awake at just before 4am so I’ve relented and am having a cuppa. Today will probably see me flagging again mid-afternoon. I cleared the ironing pile yesterday, did two wash loads and hand-raked the leaves from the lawn which took about 2 hours. All this before DH arrived home from his…

Breadmaker
Hello, I have just bought a Tefal breadmaker but the recipe book is pretty rubbish. I used to have a panasonic breadmaker a few years ago and it had a fabulous recipe for fruit loaf in there, I don't suppose anyone has it please? Or a good fruit loaf recipe? The breadmaker threads on here are all old and closed off (a bit…

Prepping: the new world...
Thought it was about time for a new Prepping thread... Please keep it on topic, friendly and realistic for life in the UK (i.e. no hurricane basements, no guns, no politics). For those that don't know, the Guides & Scouts among us will be prepared, but are the rest of us ready? IMPORTANT NOTE: this thread is a resource for…

Recipes with fish/shellfish
I have been looking at the grocery challenge thread and am loving all the recipes mentioned at the start. However, in trying to meal plan ahead, I was wondering what you all do for fish? I did not see a lot of fish recipes. We try to eat fish once or twice a week, which is an expense, but we do for the health benefits. I…

Make Do, Mend & Minimise in 2025 (and 2024)
With the cost of living showing little sign of easing soon, I thought I'd start a new thread for this. I'm sure many of us are trying to be as environmentally friendly as we can be as well as stretching our budgets as far as we can. I'm putting together a To Do list towards this end and will publish any achievements as and…

Instant pot is it worth it?
Instant pots are half price right now and I'm tempted but also worrying about whether it will be worth the initial outlay to save energy costs when cooking? Does anyone have one? What types of things do you cook n it?

Vegetable stew - batch cooking
Hello I’ve recently started having a veg box delivered from a local farm shop, it’s delicious and I’m hoping to use some of the produce that isn’t eaten immediately in recipes to stock the freezer, initially vegetarian ones to keep the cost low and I feed a couple of vegan toddlers for half the week. I’m planning on making…

Morning all. Pinch punch, first of the month. August was seen off by torrential rain and blustery winds.
