Lentils
I’ve used the search function but am not sure any of the threads answered my question. i usually buy dried puy lentils for stews/curries. I need to replenish but notice that the supermarkets only have one brand. They all have brown, green and speckled green which are way cheaper. So what’s the difference? Are speckled…

You'll know how this goes if you've done any of the previous years, but for newbies the idea is you have a list of 25 goals that you do 25 times during the year or just a list of 25 goals to hit…

The War against plastic waste
I don't know if we have a specific thread on here for sharing tips against reducing our plastic use - perhaps we could share them, but here's a current "bee in my bonnet". We recently received our National Trust magazine which came packaged in an oute wrapper which said: "I am 100% compostable and contain Potato Starch.…

2025 DECLUTTERING CAMPAIGN MrsSD - The Joy of Decluttering
To use Guineapigsqueaks/Sa1sysoo words “A new thread for declutterbugs in (2015 2016 2017 2018 2019 2020 2021 2022 2023 2024) 2025 !" My 2024 was another washout on the decluttering & decorating fronts. That is what happens when I don’t plan ahead 😔 Neither DH nor I have managed to summon up any enthusiasm for anything…

Shorten trousers
I've bought a pair of leather jeans with unfinished long leg hems, I'm wondering if anyone has a suggestion on how to temporarily shorten them securely so I can wear and decide on length I finally decide I want to turn them up to. Also how best to shorten them - simply cut? or a smarter way? I've searched and glue or tape…

Preserving (Kilner) jars etc - best place to sell?
After 45 years of bottling our garden produce, we're cutting back in the new year to just jams, pickles and chutneys. So we will soon have well over 100 "old" type ("Dual-Purpose") Kilner jars* together with their rings, new lids and so forth that will be surplus to requirements, plus our All-American 921 Pressure Canner.…

Blanket that's not wool or fleece?
We have a 4ish tog wool duvet but I get cold at night. I am however menopausal and have found putting wool or fleece on top makes me too hot. Have also tried chenille and similar. My brain is blank, what other types of blanket could I try? Bonus if they don't have tassels on and even better if are cheap. Thank you

Weekly Flylady Thread 22nd December 2025
Cristmas week starts here What is FLYLADY? Well, it's our version of the US flylady idea - but we work on
the principle that housework is not fun, it's boring, can be time-consuming, is
often thankless but, unfortunately, necessary. It's here on Old Style to
provide the support we all need and to make the whole task easier…
