All in one cookers vs standalone?
Any of you experienced these all in one things and can comment on how they stack up vs standalone cookers? We use our slow cooker a lot but are looking at replacing it. Not sure what the insert is made out of but it's terribly chipped & we only use plastic/silicone utensils in there. We have a small air fryer as OH wanted…

Weekly Flylady Thread 29th September 2025
What is FLYLADY? Well, it's our version of the US flylady
idea - but we work on the principle that housework is not fun, it's boring, can
be time-consuming, is often thankless but, unfortunately, necessary. It's here
on Old Style to provide the support we all need and to make the whole task
easier and quicker. We also…

Cooking chestnuts
There's an abundance of chestnuts in the forest. I love them but have had little success in cooking them so that the bitter brown bit comes off easily. I've boiled and roasted but never been able to get it right. If anyone has a good method of roasting them to perfection I would be a happy squirrel! Thanks

Does Anyone Remember...
The second purse challenge? That was great and could really help some people now I think.... It helped me so much when I had a very limited grocery budget and was struggling. Look it up if you are interested. I'm thinking of revisiting it as a challenge.

Every Brilliant Thing
I was lucky enough to see the wonderful Lenny Henry in Every Brilliant Thing this month (other actors are available) and it made me think about things in life that are genuinely to be appreciated. Simplifying Food: simple no fuss meals
I'm not a massive fan of cooking. Seems a lot of faff just to fuel the body. Plus all that washing up after! My favourite meals seem to be simple, English traditional stuff. Cottage pie, roasts, casserole etc. With the crazy cost of food, I'm looking to find some simple, no fuss tasty lunches and dinner. Probably around 10…
