I think my insurer is trying to scam me
This might be quite long winded but I'll try to keep it brief. In April 2021 i was in a minor accident. Damage done to both cars. The other person was at fault; i did not put a claim in but stated i would be defending a claim against me which was required, as they put a claim in stating i was at fault. I was confident…

Is it worth getting a claim management company on the case?
Bit of a weird one for me this. Someone purchased a car from my next door neighbour and when they drove off in their own vehicle, they drove straight over one of my driveway fence posts. We were in at the time but they made no effort to contact us, just reversed, stood the post up a bit and drove off. Honestly if they had…

Higher rate VED. Part way through year
I'm thinking of buying a car that's 3 yrs and 9 months old. The car was more than £40k when new. I am told that the VED is £560 until it is 6 yrs old. So when it's 5 yrs and 9 months old, could I pay for just 6 mths at the higher rate? Or can I pay for 3 mths and then re-set when the car is 6 yrs old. Has anyone been in…

Unable to insure brand new car, what to do?
I ordered a factory special from a main dealer. The car arrived 2 months late. I'm now unable to insure it as it is "not on the system". It appears that no one in the UK has bought this model/configuration before. It is still at the dealer unregistered. Only the deposit has been paid. The main insurance companies and…

Is it sensible to delay getting a car serviced to save money, if it has low mileage?
I have a 2018 petrol Honda Jazz and the manufacturer says Your car should be serviced every 12 months or 12500 miles. https://www.honda.co.uk/cars/faqs.html#headingone But my car only does 3000 or 4000 miles a year and it seems unlikely that it would need servicing as regularly as one that does 12,000. So is it OK to delay…

PCP mystery
My wife and I have bought a sequence of Honda cars on PCP. Usually the dealer waits until around 3 out of the 4 years and suggests a change and a deal to be had. We acquired our present car in April 2022 but already the dealer has come back to me twice to suggest a change of vehicle. The model hasn't changed and I have…

First car: Yaris, Picanto, or Peugeot 208
Hello all, I'm looking to buy my first petrol manual car under £4K and have been doing some comparisons among Toyota Yaris 2011-2014, Kia Picanto 2011-2015, and Peugeot 208 2012-2015. I've always been told that Yaris is a no-brainer go-to option, with cheap road tax and good mpg. I totally agree with that having driven it…

Toyota Yaris exhaust muffler heat shield has been removed. Is this MOT or safe?
Hi all, I have a mk1 Yaris and noticed a rattling noise coming from the exhaust that became worse. Took it to a local garage today who simply removed the heat shield and told me it is okay to run the car like that. They didn't charge me anything so I didn't question further and drove off.
