Car Insurance charged £355 extra for claims that weren’t made?

My car insurance said I didn’t add on 2 claims
1 from 2022 which was just a notification to insurance saying van had gone into back of me but no claim made?
other was this year 2025 my partner (additional driver) sold campervan, 2 hours later buyer had accident and made a claim but sale was still going through.
so now on my partner’s & my database. (But nothing to do with us)

we proved the 2022 was only a notification and the 2025 was sold before accident but still I get charged £355 which was not my fault,

could I write to them and claim this money back?

Help please!!

How has this charge manifested itself - is it an increase to your premium - or have they actually taken an amount out of your bank account?

So had partner cancelled ins & updated details with DVLA via online service?
Fail to see how new owner could claim, unless partner still had valid ins & new owner had no ins. So would be a 3rd party claim on partners ins.
Additional drivers claims do have to be declared on the policy.

  • Partner cancelled insurance. Buyer of campervan made a claim on her own insurance, but because it was still in my partners name sale processing it went under his database of him being the owner when he wasn’t.

You are asked to declare any losses irrespective of if you claimed or not so why didnt you declare the 2022 incident? Insurers make very little difference between an unclaimed incident, a notification and a claim

You are somewhat lucky that they are only charging you £355, some of which will be admin fees, as others would have voided your policy for fraud which is something you'd have to declare for the rest of your life.

Never heard of an issue like that of your partners, at a guess the driver of your former vehicle was at fault for the incident and their insurer was contacted by the non-faulty/their insurers as the MID still had them as the insurer of the vehicle for that day but the claim was repudiated.

But this collision DID occur? But you didn't tell the insurer that when they asked about ALL collisions, loss, damage, even if no claim had been made?

What do you mean by "sale was still going through"?

Do you mean the buyer hadn't insured it yet, while you hadn't yet cancelled your own insurance?

If that's the case, then - yes - as the insurer of record, your insurer is on the hook.
This is why you cancel the insurance BEFORE the other person drives away in the vehicle they just bought. Then if they're uninsured it doesn't become your problem.

If it was simply that DVLA hadn't been notified of the keeper change, that would not be sufficient to flag it under your insurance. But keeper changes are instant online.
  • Incident in 2022 was only only a notification so I didn’t think I was a claim,

incident in 2025 was nothing to do with us. Yes it was a collision of the lady that brought my partners campervan 2 hours after sale. She claimed on her insurance so why is that to do with us?

You are told to declare incidents so no excuse for 2022

For 2025 I would suggest your partner does a SAR request to the MIB asking for the data held on CUE about her

You are not asked about claims. You are asked about incidents.

Your wife’s insurance was still in place when the accident occurred.
  • The insurance company asked if any claims in the last 3 years.
No my partners insurance was cancelled as soon as it was sold it. And if he didn’t have the accident it shouldn’t be to do to with us.
