Dangerous problem with 2025 Tiguan

Have took delivery of a new 2025 Tiguan. The car is not safe to drive. Its drive assist system is not working as it should be. The car keeps making an emergency stop sensing a front end collision when there are no vehicles in front. The braking is violent which triggers the horn and hazard lights to go on. A rear end collision is waiting to happen. I avoid motorways for obvious reasons. I read recently another Tiguan driver had the same problem happen whilst in the fast lane of the motorway. Because of the violent braking it caused a multiple rear end pile up. Luck to be alive to tell the story. I now want Volkswagen to take it back and refunded.

Any other new Tiguan owners having similar problems with the driver assist system?

When did you take delivery of the car?
What have your supplying dealer said / done?
Can the driver assist be deactivated?

False activations are a 'feature' of the VW radar system - plenty of reports on line.

I am pretty sure you can adjust the distance of the "Front Assist" on these.
I would say it's set too sensitive for your type of driving and it's picking up everything.

I seem to think VW has an Early, Medium and Late settings accessed via the infotainment system.
You might want to read the owners manual or search Youtube and try changing the setting a few times until you find the one that suits your driving.

VW Driver Assist Tutorial -- How to Use ACC, Travel Assist, Lane Assist, Side Assist and more!!!
(9.28 minutes for Front Assist settings)

I know I can alter this on my Renault.
In the middle of my dash I have a graphic of a "road" with an activation line in it and if the system picks up a vehicle, it shows it's position relative to me.

I just push a button on the steering wheel and it moves the activation line on the screen back and forth, closer or further away. There are four or five distance settings. Miles away or the full Audi, glued to their bumper setting. It's also colour coded, it glows anything from green to baboons bottom!

It also works with the active cruise control as well, setting the distance it keeps being the car in front. (though I think this is another separate setting in VW's)
The "road" in the screen also have edges, these "lock" when the active steering is turned on and it can sense an edge or white line.

If it’s dangerous - it wouldnt be wise to drive it at all, especially now you are aware of the fault/danger

I have similar issues with my VW passat, drifting at speed, no sense of connection steering wheel to road, steering wobble at low speeds, speeding up while slowing down and visa versa, warning bleeps without reason. I have contacted the VW dealer who recognises it's not me, but no explanation as to what is causing it. Talked to a local VW service person who said VW are dealing with updates to their tech! I have put in writing that I want to hand the car back. Waiting for a solution.

I notice the link refers to sudden braking when reversing, not when driving forwards…

My 2025 Seat Leon has a bad habit of suddenly braking when reversing. The reason in this case is easy to see… when I drive towards a neighbours drive, before reversing onto ours, one of the sideways looking sensors picks up their gatepost and shows “red” on the infotainment screen. If I reverse while turning the steering wheel it slams on the brakes, if I reverse while initially keeping the steering/wheels straight, it doesn’t.

The problem in this case is the car computer is slow to respond and “thinks” that turning the steering wheel is going to result in the front of the car hitting the gate post, even though when it brakes the post is now around 10 feet away and getting further by the second.

A similar sluggish response occurs when cornering at low speed, the front fog light is supposed to turn on to increase illumination when cornering, on the previous Seat Leon it was instantaneous, not so on this 2025 model, it is delayed by perhaps 2 seconds 😡

Another bug in the “not so clever” system is the remote monitoring often shows the car to be unlocked when it is definitely locked, and occasionally the opposite.

One feature the clever system excels at is recognising road signs, it even shows a deer symbol when it sees a tractor symbol, how it knows the farmer has a John Deere tractor is amazing 😂

The car designers are being pushed into adding all manner of unnecessary gimmicks, partly by bureaucratic legislation and partly by trying to add more and more “features” we mostly don’t need or want.
