How is your windscreen?
I've noticed, with the sun coming out this week, that the windscreen on my 5 month old EV has some pit marks, those small dots that aren't really chips but nevertheless show up in the right condition. One or two are just above the steering wheel so in my eyeline and, now that I've noticed them, are irritating rather than…

Car in a garage far away from me - too expensive to repair. Cash for cars best option?
This is really for peace of mind. I have a 19 year-old car (mileage approx 90,000). Basically, car broke down on way home from trip outside a town about 70 miles from me. Had to get towed to local garage near breakdown and get bus home. A week later they are quoting me £680 for new tires and repairs. This is a lot more…

What effect does theft (and recovery) of car have on insurance premium if I pay for repairs myself?
I hope this is not too open ended a question .... My car was stolen from an airport meet and greet company but was recovered a few days later. The theft (and recovery) has been reported to my insurers. The car sustained some damage to a couple of doors and a couple of things were stolen from inside. I can easily see the…

AutoAid renewal extra charges - a cautionary tale
Our AutoAid renewal email has just landed. It includes an extra charge for the second driver and an extra charge for a car that's more than 15 years old. We have the extra driver so presumed that the company has changed its charging structure to show it as an extra rather than inclusive. Fair enough I guess. We don't have…

Ford Fiesta Rust- how to fix
2005 Ford Fiesta- 100k miles, great car only needs a few hundred quid a year for repairs/service and is sound. however previous accident wasn’t repaired causing rust, my fault on reflection. It’s causing water ingress in the boot which is not ideal but more worried about further rust spread and MOT failure long term Behind…

PCP settlement close to DD date
Just a quick query to get others thoughts. I was able to settle my PCP agreement last week which I did by bank transfer on Tuesday. I left the (1st of the month) DD in place recognising how soon it was due. I have seen no acknowledgement on my VWFS account of the transfer but today the DD has not been collected. Annoyingly…

PCP deal
12 months ago I received a text for a new electric car deal for £199 per month. I live in a mid terrace house with no way to have an EV charger fitted. However is was working 3 miles from my home and my mileage was not much. I was charging the car once per week. Since then due to circumstances beyond my control I had to…

How would you buy a used car for around 20k. PCP/Mortgage Finance?
Contemplating buying a used car. For the last 20 years I have bought a used car and kept it for 6/7 years and then got rid - I drive a lot of miles circa 15k. 1st MOT early test?
My car's 1st MOT is due 23rd May this year. As I don't have an MOT certificate, I'm not sure if I can present it for test up to 4 weeks (or a month?) prior to that date, and still have a full year till 23rd May 2026. I always book my cars in as early as possible in case there are any issues, so could anybody please confirm?

Spurious VED Reminders
Car tax due 1st March this year. Paid by credit card on 8th February. Payment confirmed by Amex, and the car is showing "Taxed until 1st March 2026". I continued to receive regular reminders by text and email, which of course I ignored. But today I got "The tax has now expired".. Is this a known problem?

"MOT test certificate could not be found"
Hi all, I'm trying to retax my van online but am met with the error "MOT test certificate could not be found". For context the van is nowhere near due an MoT/PSV/GVT yet as it is still much too new. How can their ridiculous system not realise this? Any advice on how to sort this would be welcomed. Regards,Risteard

Are Ford ripping me off?
My wife's 7 year old Fiesta's check engine light came on, and the local Ford garage replaced an O2 sensor. When the fault recurred for the second time, the garage said they 'suspected' that an oil seal had developed a leak, allowing oil to contaminate a wiring harness, which they recommended replacing at an estimated cost…

Buying a Motability car at end of lease
Just to make people aware you can’t extend your lease if your car is over 20,000 miles. Also now you are unable to buy the car at the end of the lease either. I have 7 months left and been looking and between the AD payment and the style and setup of the car there is nothing that suites what I need. I thought I would ask…

Pothole damage claim - is dashcam good enough evidence?
Hello all Recently I hit a pothole and damaged the tyre and tyre pressure sensor, costing a total of £400. I still have not filled a FOI request but looks like there were not any other reports before I hit it, but two after I did. Regardless of what the maintenance was on the road (TfL authority, not council) is dashcam…

Rejecting a car on finance due to fault
Hi folks Hopefully someone could help me with this subject as I'm not sure where to turn. I bought a used car less than two weeks ago. Within a week I'd noticed a problem, the car was running right around 30-40mph, and the issue could be felt in the car as a driver. I reported this to the dealership who said to bring the…
