Seat Leon broken glove box hinge

My 2024 model Leon has a broken glove box hinge, the service receptionist claimed that it isn’t covered under warranty, odd how there was another customer waiting for a repair who also had a broken glove box.
The technician who looked at the fault said it should be a warranty repair..,
My guess is there are others with the same manufacturing fault.
Anyone else with the same issue?

Ive not got a Leon but the service desks response that its not covered by the warranty doesn't surprise me.
Quick online search shows the warranty is 3 years or 60,000 miles (whichever comes first). The warranty covers defects in manufacture or workmanship.
It does not cover damage caused by misuse, accidents, improper servicing, modifications, or normal wear-and-tear. ------> so you need to demonstrate its a defect or a workmanship issue [and they will insist its misuse, wear-and-tear etc.....
So i would take it to another dealership, or speak to a different service advisor [and failing that, write a letter of complaint]
Out of curiosity, do you know if you can buy a replacement hinge from the parts department and what it costs (only reason i ask, is i would be tempted to mention the cost in the letter of complaint i.e. dear Seat it only costs £20 so please replace it out of good will you tight B?$"%rds)
PS: get AI to write the letter for you (ive got it to write a couple of letters for me recently and all were better than what rubbish i wrote and i got the result i wanted in both)I have a tendency to mute most posts so if your expecting me to respond you might be waiting along time!1 -
The link didn’t have any reports of broken glove box hinges.
The technician who looked at the car said it needed a new glove box, it’s not a simple hinge. Cost would be £411, a crazy price for a glorified plastic bucket… it’s a car not a helicopter 😂

There is the issue a person with zero experience in cars making a decision that has nothing to do with them.Frozen_up_north said:My 2024 model Leon has a broken glove box hinge, the service receptionist claimed that it isn’t covered under warranty, odd how there was another customer waiting for a repair who also had a broken glove box.

VAG group have a couple of reoccurring faults on almost all their vehicles. Rusty front wings due to a foam insert between the wing and the wheel arch liner and weak gloves box hinges.
They are well aware the issues arise from a design defect but because they normally survive past the warranty they don't care about resolving the issues.
Looks to be the same design as the A4 gloves box hinges which have been breaking off for over 20 years.
Suggest you go back and stand firm that the glove box lid should be replaced under warranty as it should last more than 1 year.
If they still refuse look for a second hand glove box on eBay, expect to pay around £100 second hand. They are easy to swap out only being held in by a few bolts.1 -
I'm pretty sure the cabin filter is behind the glove box on these.
On the LHD car, the glove box "bin" is just wriggled down to access the filter cover but on the RHD cars the glove box "bin" and surrounding trim should be taken out completely.
Maybe someone has been hamfisted changing the filter and broke the hinge trying to wriggle the bin part down without removing the surrounding trim.
As you have found out, it's not just the glove box bin that requires replacement, but the glove box is part of that side of the dash's trim in one whole unit which is why it costs so much.

I called by my local independent garage and asked their opinion, quite a surprise as I was told the only issue was the hinge pin had somehow worked itself out and they would have sorted it quite easily if I had the pin.
When I phoned the dealer, intending to have an argument, the service receptionist said there had been a mistake and it would be covered under warranty. Odd how they had sent me an email a few days ago showing the cost and requesting authority to go ahead with the repair, no mention of Seat picking up the cost!

As the car is less than a year old, the filter hasn't been changed. As alluded to in the link, the design is a mess.Goudy said:I'm pretty sure the cabin filter is behind the glove box on these.
