It's original design wasn't too bad.
It's what happens to cars when they convert them from the original LHD design to RHD markets.

They almost never move the fuse box which means the glove box and surrounding trim on a RHD model is screwed up and in most cases, this makes cabin filter access a headache if it was originally on the passenger side (of a LHD car).

They have actually moved the cabin filter and access cover on the Leon.
We've had a car that you needed to unbolt the steering column from the steering rack pinion to get at the screws and cabin filter door.

I only did it once before I ground a 5.5mm socket down to slim wafer, drilled a hole through what was left and tacked a tiny screwdriver through it to fit between the steering column and cover.
But that was just one issue, now you have to bend the cabin filter over the clutch pedal and around the column to get it to slide in.

The car is now the MIL's and she asked me to service it for her a couple of months ago.
I panicked with a cold sweat thinking of the job before I emptied all my tool boxes and bags out onto the kitchen floor looking for the Frankenstein's friend!
