Car Insurance - going from two to one car - insurance question please
We are about to go down to one car but have an insurance question.
Currently we are named as main driver on our own cars but when we go down to one, there won't be a main driver as car use is likely to be close to 50/50.
How do others declare this rather than have a main driver, particularly as the single car will be owned/registered to one of us?
Thanks in advance

            You take your best guess.
It's very unlikely to be an issue unless there's a significant difference in your risk profiles and one of you actually drives the car substantially more than the other.
The question is assumed at finding out whether you've bought a car for your teenage son who will be driving it 95% of the time, not splitting hairs over whether it's you or your wife who drives for 55% of the journeys.
Or you use an insurer like Direct Line who didn't ask the question at all but just say in the assumptions "you or your spouse/partner are the main driver...".1

If you will genuinely be using the car equally, then it really doesn't matter. For the sake of simplicity, put the RK down as the main driver. And particularly if you are husband and wife, insurance companies don't really care too much, it's almost assumed that you'll be using the car equally. As the previous poster says, it's aimed more at people who put themselves as the main driver when in fact it's their teenage child who will really be doing most of the driving.

One thing to remember is if you are not going to get a 2nd car in 2 years, you will need to rotate main driver to keep NCD intact for both drivers.Life in the slow lane0

Unless there is a massive age gap or one of you only just passed their test or such insurers arent going to be too concerned. You should still take a best guess as who's likely to drive it more (they won't be able to even tell you if them mean frequency, hours or miles) and declare them as the main driver.xrg4 said:We are about to go down to one car but have an insurance question.Currently we are named as main driver on our own cars but when we go down to one, there won't be a main driver as car use is likely to be close to 50/50.How do others declare this rather than have a main driver, particularly as the single car will be owned/registered to one of us?0

You mean the policyholder, not the main driver.born_again said:One thing to remember is if you are not going to get a 2nd car in 2 years, you will need to rotate main driver to keep NCD intact for both drivers.0
