Can't switch supplier
We have a below ground tank which is stamped to operate down to -20 We tried recently to switch supplier but each supplier we approached refused to accept the switch because the tank isn't tested to -40 The tank was only installed by Avantigas in 2018 Has anyone else had this problem?

Alternative Fuel Payments
Hello. I wondered of anyone knew any more about this scheme because I can't find any detailed information about it. I bought this house 3years ago, complete with a big log burning stove (installed about 20 years before) which heats up the radiators (if I put the pump on) and the hot water. There is no gas supply to the…

downrate oil boiler?
I have a 1 year old grant vortex boiler which can be set up with 15, 21 or 26kw nozzles. It currently has the 21, 3 bedroom 1.5 storey house with 11 rads, 200L invented cylinder. Oil consumption over winter was around 11L/day which I'm a bit disappointed with as it's the same as the old non condensing combi it replaced…

Logburner with back boiler and oil as a supplement.
We live in a 4 bed1980s bungalow in the Scottish Highlands. Currently we have a 25year old oil boiler on a pressurised system with a logburner in the living room. We’re looking to upgrade our heating and I don’t think the walls of the house have sufficient insulation for air source, plus the running costs horrify me. What…

Measuring oil deliveries
Hi all,I've been trying to make an accurate measuring stick for my new oil tank, and have a question about oil deliveries. Previously, my local oil supplier would always write the before and after readings from the dispensing delivery tanker on my invoice showing exactly how many litres had been delivered. My recent…

First time oil user
Hi Everyone, So we are currently purchasing a house and it has an oil heating system. It's in a little village with no gas mains, that's no different to the village we live in now but currently we have an air source heat pump. So it will be our first time using oil. The oil tank was replaced about 7 years ago so should be…

Multi Fuel Stove - Smoke
Hi I've just swapped out my 14 year old Tiger for an eco design (Defra 2022 compliant) Flavel Arundel XL stove. Lovely looking stove and seems more efficient (even though I've not used it that much). However, this is where my love for this stove ends. Despite getting a good kindling fire going and following the…

Cheaper Oil Prices
Hi guys, For anyone on oil, last night was the cheapest I have seen oil for a long while. We buy through NRG. Thought I would post this in case people having looked at prices for a while. With gas at 10p per unit (+daily standing charges) I think oil isn't too bad at the moment.

Rising heating oil prices
With wholesale prices continuing to fall, why are retail prices to consumers continuing to rise? There seems to be no Government Regulator or control over this area of the energy market. I've obtained quotations from all my local suppliers in order to check prices, and without exception they've all increased I have tried…

MODERN CONDENSING BOILERS HAVE A SERIOUS DESIGN FLAW
Here's the problem: Modern Condesing boilers work perfectly in the summer when the weather is warm, and you don't need any heat, and then fail when its cold and you do need heat....Due to an apparently common and obvious design flaw. I recently bought a brand new boiler made by a very popular manufacturer, and installed by…

How much electricity does an oil boiler use?
I'd really appreciate some help with this question (sorry if it's been asked before, I tried searching the posts but couldn't find the answer). I have a Grant Vortex condensing combi 26 oil boiler and I'd like to work out how much electricity the boiler uses. Can anyone tell me - or explain where to look to find out - how…

LPG tank non-compliant after 8 years, can't change suppliers
We had an LPG tank installed in 2014 by Countrywide (now taken over by Flogas). It was positioned 90cm from a garden wall and should have been 1 metre away. We were able to change to Calor in 2016 (Calor carried out work on the tank so saw the installation) and AvantiGas in 2018 (didn't see the tank and their questionnaire…

Domestic oil
It has just been anounced that there will be a £200 payment this year to those using heating oil, double last year's payment I am on heating oil however didn't get any payments, did anyone else get the £100 and if so where do you claim it ? My understanding was it was to be paid via my electricity company but not sure if…

Why is my stove not *that* hot?
I have my multifuel stovax 5 and for some reason, although it is OK, it is not that roasting. I need to fill it with coal (or wood) and still it is not THAT hot. Compare it with a stove I had in an air B&B a few weeks back... that was incredible. It was SO HOT it was nearly unbearable. That was a Pioneer 400 (never heard…

Oil Condensing Boiler - optimum flow/return temperatures
Hi, I've seen the comments regarding gas condensing boilers, how they need a suitably low return temperature to operate in condensing mode. Does the same apply to oil boilers? We have a Grant Vortex Pro boiler and I've been through both user and the installers' guides and can't see any reference. The boiler has a…

Home heating oil
Apparently Brent crude has dropped back to early £2022 pre-invasion price yet an online quote from Boiler Juice shows it's gone back up again, around £470 for 500 litres. Why?

ID my Villager, please.
Damn, damn, damn - just as I was half-way through converting a gas Stove to solid fuel, I got the opportunity to pick up a Villager wood-burner for a price that would have been rude not to. And, under the tatty exterior, it is in remarkably good condition. Blast. So, gas-solid conversion on hold, possibly permanently :-( I…

Switching from coal central heating to Gas central heating
Hi All, New to this forum so apologised if I have put this in the wrong forum? I am moving into a 3 bedroom mid terrace house with coal boiler and coal central heating. There is a separate boiler in a boiler room. I would ideally want to change this to use gas as well as the cooker, oven etc… Just want to have an idea…

Is it possible to have both bulk LPG and bottled LPG?
So, Avanti have failed to delivery LPG to me for the last 6 weeks and I've now run out. I'm sure they'll get round to it eventually, but I'd like to try and prevent myself ending up without hot water again (heating is at least partially solvable with fan heaters). Other than abandoning LPG for oil or a heat pump, I…

Price of logs
The price for softwood kiln dried logs from our local well regarded firewood supplier has gone from £70 (0.85m3 bulk bag) in April to £90 now, an increase of 28.5%. Was wondering if these sorts of increases were common around the country, or if we should try shopping around a bit?
