Smokeless coal prices
I currently have no central heating due to having had work done through the summer that's still unfinished. I have a multi fuel stove in the living room that is now my only heat source. I've been using smokeless coal since earlier in the year, picking up a bag here and there since the end of last winter to keep a stock,…

solar powered electric shower vs combi boiler heated shower - which is most economical?
I have solar panels (capable of producing just under 4kw on a good day, and no battery). I was wondering, on average, if it's more economical for me to use my electric shower during the day, or my combi-boiler heated shower? It does take a tad longer for hot water to come through on combi-boiler shower, which doesnt make…

Current Home Heating Oil Prices - Still Far Too High
We've seen the cost of petrol and diesel drop dramatically over the past month or so thanks to declining oil prices and I've already heard some announcements of gas being reduced however, home heating oil still seems scandalously expensive. I can't get gas where I live, so I have little choice but to suck it and see. My…

ELIGIBILITY?
My cousin has LPG but has been told by her electricity supplier that she will not be eligible for the £200 because she has solar panels!!!!! Any comments or clues? Seems wrong to me - there is no central register of who has solar panels so most current energy suppliers won't know if a customer has solar or not.

GOVERNMENT PAYMENT FOR OFF GRID ENERGY USERS - eg oil boiler users
I think back in September Martin said: "We've asked the Government how this £100 will be paid and whether it will be the only additional payment made available." Everything seems to have gone dead. Does anyone know anything about his or are we going to be diddled out of it?

Homeserve Increase
Hi Just on hold trying to cancel my Homeserve boiler and central heating cover - 10 minutes and counting and no queuing info. They have increased it by 40% taking it to over £500 per year which is extraordinary given the profits for last year on their website. Just wondered if people bothered with cover for an older…

Sorry this is a bit of a long post but I have a few questions. I hope someone can help me out. However, this has now been rectified and added to your…

Do you get a cost of living payment if you use LPG.
Hello, I have a Lpg which is used for my heating and hot water. Do you get an additional payment if you use this type of fuel? I get the £66 a month from my electricity supplier. When I spoke to Calor gas, they said it would come from my electricity provider. I spoke to British Gas who supply my electricity and they had no…

Does anyone own/have views on HWAM WIKING Mini 2 or Charnwood Aire 5 stoves
Hi, We are looking at purchasing a HWAM WIKING Mini 2 with short legs stove as we like the idea of the WIKING Automatic feature. Does anyone have this stove / would you recommend it? As a secondary option, we were thinking about the Charnwood Aire 5. Thanks!

Heating oil in small quantities in the northeast
Hi does anyone know where you can pick up heating oil in the north east but in smaller quantities like say 25 litres. I've heard some garage forecourts used to sell it but can't find any locally. I'm around the Morpeth area so thought it would have been a lot easier as a lot of people in northumberland have heating oil as…

Diesel heater at home
Hello, i use a diesel heater in my garage where I spend most of my day, it's the same type you find in caravans or campers. At the moment I fill a 5 litre can every few days ( depending on how cold it is ) at the local filling station for which I'm paying duties and taxes as a road vehicle. I'm seemingly unable to find a…

Help ID old woodburner.
Can anyone help ID the brand / model of this woodburner please? It was already installed in a recent house purchase. It's kicking out minimal heat which I think is due in part to the very small fireplace which I'm planning to expand. Would like to ID the burner to see if it's up to latest spec or if a newer model would be…

Heating Oil Winter Discount
If the £200 oil discount is going to be paid via our electricity account how does the electricity provider know that we are a heating oil consumer. Is it simply the fact that we are not a gas consumer? How do they know that? Thanks Stewart

Advice needed on Paraffin ...
I have just bought a modern indoor laser paraffin heater for use in the home, as being in a very rural area, I really can't afford to use electric heating any longer, and are off-grid for gas. Does anyone have any knowledge on which type of paraffin is usable safely with this, that I can buy from a heating oil company? I…

Do I need to claim?
I'm looking for some advice please. I didn't know until I saw the MSE email on the 22nd November that there was such a thing as the 'alternative fuel payment'! I have no mains gas and so had an oil system installed in 2004 as the storage radiator system was far too inefficient. Do I have to claim this 'alternative fuel…
