24/7 Home Rescue Plans - Help if needed
Reading this forum, many like myself have suffered from 24/7 Home Rescue policies and their record in declining valid claims. I have recently successfully obtained a full refund from them. It took nearly a year and there was a lot of time wasting but to help others I thought I'd write a guide to help others out with tips I…

Discretionary Fund for Heating Oil and Bulk LPG
The announcement of the support for energy prices from October 1st included a "Discretionary fund for heating oil users". I assume this also includes Bulk LPG. The statement said it was aimed to provide "equivalent support" to that offered to mains fuel users. No further information has yet been released. Given these…

How will the £100 central heating oil payment be made? It looks like it is on top of the £400 starting in October from my electricity supplier. Will the £100 oil payment be made by my oil supplier or is it something I will need to apply for.

Oil Fired Boiler: Black Smoke from Flue
Hi, I wonder if anyone could offer any advice or help. We have only been living with oil heating for just over a year since moving into a new home. When we got our first delivery of oil back in December we noticed that there was black smoke coming from the flue when the boiler was working. It did pass after a couple of…

Air source/Heat Pump operation help
Air-source hot water system!! Can anyone help me tweak the settings to ensure it’s running as efficiently as possible, and answer a couple of questions? Its an air-source system; so a big tank under the stairs, big square box on the roof with a fan (like air-con) and we’re electric only - no gas here. We rent, and the…

Calor Gas Leaky Cylinders (twice)
Hi, We have a pair of 19kg Propane cylinders on an automatic change over serving the cooker. The change over is also the regulator, so the hoses to the cylinders are high pressure. We've now had a couple of Calor Gas cylinders where there's been a leak between the cylinder and the hose fitting. Checking the last time it…

Multi-fuel or wood pellet stove?
On the face of it a wood pellet stove seems the most efficient and was the cheapest to run but prices for the pellets have doubled - no good reason just exploitation of inflation bandwagon. Pellets are after all made of waste materials... Quotes for multi stoves are £3000+!!! Because they all insist on putting it in the…

Off grid coal/wood/gas help from goverment?
Hi all, I live on a narrowboat and have been told by my supplier that the price of coal and wood is going up a lot this winter and I wondered if there is help for people living on narrowboats etc as we are not seemingly covered by the energy help by the government, not that I have heard anyway. At £15+ per bag of coal now…

I am in Wales and use Calor for bulk tank deliveries. I thought I was on a fixed-price contract till end of Sept but they now deny having ever received my signed copy of contract - so I have no contract.Their current offer to me is 68p per litre + 5% VAT. If I don't accept that and sign new contract, then it will go up to…

What is your average monthly spend on heating oil?
Hello, We are in the process of buying a new house which has heating oil. I am a bit concerned about news of significant price rises for heating oil and customers not being protected by price caps. Could you let me know what your monthly spend was on heating oil last winter? And what you anticipate your monthly spend to be…

Wood burner - would you?
Entirely hypothetical at this stage, but am starting to think about the possibility of getting a wood burner. I'd need to do a fair bit of research on costs, but the reality is that I've got extensive woodland behind my house with a LOT of dead wood from fallen branches/trees lying around; and a double garage where I could…

Oil or Air source decision - complete system from scratch
We are putting in a new central heating system in our 1920s 4 bed rural semi which is off mains gas. Currently no central heating at all. We explored trying to fix our night storage heaters but running costs this winter will be crazy and they are really undersized for the rooms anyway so we have made the decision to…
