Heating oil additives, good idea?
Hi we've had our oil-fired CH from new, for about 17 years. I always have the Grant boiler serviced annually. It's due one this September/October. We only have a 1200l tank, and over the past few years get 500l purchases at a time. It has never run out, there's always a few cms above the oil outlet. Just recently - last…

Oil that can be paid monthly?
Hi, I need to buy oil as my tank is almost empty. This is my first time buying oil. I am struggling to find suppliers that let you pay by direct debit. They all seem to require a card payment of the full thing. The ones that have "Pay monthly" options are not pay monthly, they all seem to be just "load money each month…

Solar panels and storage heaters question,
If I were to have solar panels fitted would I be able to replace 2 of my downstairs radiators replaced with electric storage heaters? I would fit them with 3 pin plugs and timers and heat them during daylight hours. When all the house needed to be warm I would use my gas central heating for the rest of the house. How many…

Battery Backup for House
Hi. I am convinced we will be having multiple power outages this winter due to demand overpowering supply. My wife works from home and is reliant on electricity to earn her living. We have solar panels but they also cut out during an outage. I am hoping for some advice on the best form of "battery backup" that can keep the…

What happens if an LPG supplier goes bust?
With mains gas, I know customers are moved to other companies if their supplier goes bust, and I assume (??) those other companies have to take them. Does the same apply to LPG? We're unable to switch LPG supplier as others don't like our tank position (even though our supplier has merrily filled it for years and signed…

Does this Solar quote sound right?
Had a quote yesterday for 13 x Qcell panels, 3.6kwh inverter and 10.4kwh batteries. Total £14000 First concern was that they can install in 5 weeks, from what I have been reading it is way longer than that for an install time, maybe just me. Secon concern is during the meeting I was told the savings would be between…

Solar Funding
Is there still funding available for Solar installations? Seems to be a lot of confusion when researching this. We receive Working and Child Tax Credits and also have an adult son who receives PIP. There seem to be loads of companies stating there is, some are obviously not legit i.e. wrong phone numbers, just email a lao…

Oil Household Worried About Lack of Government Support
So I kept hearing all the useless discussions about price caps and what these mean for dual fuel users so I have just had a stab at estimating our energy bills for the winter. After doing so I found and double checked the electricity calculator on here. I've done it on an annual spend basis which has some flaws and there…

Moving house Sep 29th 2022
Hi everyone I'm getting the keys to my new house on 29th Sep and I'm really concerned about the state of the energy market and the upcoming rise in price cap. Repositioning Bulk LPG (currently Calorgas) at house we're buying
I want to add a conservatory to the house we are buying . On doing a little research I can see Calor say the bulk tank needs a clearance of 3 m all round. The one corner of the proposed conservatory would only be around 1m from the tank. What are my options? If I switched supplier would they move the tank for free? Any…

Heating Conservatory & Garden Office. Mix Calor Gas & Electric?
Dear All, we have a small conservatory (~3m x 3m) which we use as dining room (the space of the house doesn't allow to eat in the house) and also a shed converted to a home office during Covid. Both are at the moment heated just with portable electric heaters, which of course was already very expensive last winter, and…

LPG
The team and Martin do fantastic work on our behalf re energy prices and advice - however for those of us without mains gas we are stuck with LPG (or oil or electric) - there are only a few LPG suppliers and they hold us to ransom increasing prices as and when they feel it necessary. Is there anything we can do to bring…
