£100 govt discount

Hi all
i apologise if there’s lots of info on this but I’m new here and just finding my feet. I need to get some oil soon as my tank is nearly empty and am due to have an operation early October so can’t afford to run out!! I’m not sure 1) if I order now will the prices be cheaper than if I order AFTER 1 Oct? And 2) if I order now to avoid higher cost will I miss out on the £100 discount/money towards heating oil bill? I really need the £100 and don’t want to forfeit it by buying too soon but maybe it would be swallowed up in a massive hike in prices anyway? just can’t find any info at all as to whether it will be at point of purchase or backdated?  I’d be most grateful if anyone has any advice as it’s a worry. Thank you all so much.

I honestly can not see money being given to help previous purchases but with winter coming I’m sure you will need a top up soon enough.

There are 5 active threads in this section (as in those that have had posts in the last few days an easy to see).

Crystal ball job.    Oil price has been falling but oil is priced in dollars and sterling has been falling.  What it will be in the future is impossible to say.

And 2) if I order now to avoid higher cost will I miss out on the £100 discount/money towards heating oil bill?
Probably best to assume that there wont be a £100 payment now as the price of oil has fallen below the comparable level of support given to gas.

Also, the "discretionary" reference is of concern as we don't yet know what discretion is required.
just can’t find any info at all as to whether it will be at point of purchase or backdated?
Same as all the other threads.  We don't know.

Maybe hedge your bets by going for 500 litres now.

Ahh yes I’ve looked properly now! Apologies for adding to the cluster! As I say I’m new and finding my feet.

I see. I dont really have a clue how it all works to be honest so that’s helpful to know. I’ll do a bit more research on it all to try and understand it better.

Again thanks. I think I’ll take my chances and order it now. I’m not much is a risk taker! Hopefully if it is paid it might be paid direct into bank accounts by the LA so I might not miss out. Fingers crossed.

I agree. Thanks again and I need to learn how to do the quotes in reply better too I’m sure! 😄

Any comparator with Gas is erroneous as Heating Oil ( Kerosene)  prices are more volatile. Historically Kero prices are cheapest in summer and normally increase on 1st October. Thats in normal times so who knows what may happen this year. I have been holding fire before filling my tank

Thanks. May I ask why if they normally go up? Is it because it’s all just so uncertain? Thank you for helping me try to understand!

Theres more demand for heating oil in Europe and US during our Winter, hence higher prices. Not usually a specific rise at start of October, generally they start to rise from late Summer onwards.
