We live on a Narrow Boat and we get out electric from the Marina... We use Calor Gas which has gone up, Coal which has gone up, diesel for getting hot water and back up heating. I have looked and looked where to get help. As we do not pay Council Tax direct to the council its included in our residential mooring fees. So…

Anyone got a crystal ball? Oil prices
We're down to quarter tank, approx 300ltrs. Can't decide to buy now and accept current prices cheapest I can get is 92.72ppl or hold off a few weeks on the off chance? Was going to order 750ltrs which will easily see us into next Spring and have the money to cover, but I also like a good deal and will be annoyed if prices…

Solar Funding
Is there still funding available for Solar installations? Seems to be a lot of confusion when researching this. We receive Working and Child Tax Credits and also have an adult son who receives PIP. There seem to be loads of companies stating there is, some are obviously not legit i.e. wrong phone numbers, just email a lao…

Oil Household Worried About Lack of Government Support
So I kept hearing all the useless discussions about price caps and what these mean for dual fuel users so I have just had a stab at estimating our energy bills for the winter. After doing so I found and double checked the electricity calculator on here. I've done it on an annual spend basis which has some flaws and there…

oil to air source heat pump
Our oil boiler has just been condemned after 20 years good service. The parts are no longer available. OH is now looking at the option of an air source heat pump instead. Given the price of oil at the moment would anyone have any info on switching or any advice if you have one. thanks

Moving house Sep 29th 2022
Hi everyone I'm getting the keys to my new house on 29th Sep and I'm really concerned about the state of the energy market and the upcoming rise in price cap. Does anyone have any insight into how I am best to manage this so I'm not stung with the maximum new rates for fixed prices for gas and electricity? I'm currently on…

Cost -Gas vs multifuel burner
Apologies if this questions has been asked many times before For years I have toyed with the idea of having a stove installed I grew up in a house with an open fire although GFCH is so convenient there is nothing more relaxing than heat from a fire I've been quoted £3200 for the supply and fit of a 5kw multifuel burner…

Repositioning Bulk LPG (currently Calorgas) at house we're buying
I want to add a conservatory to the house we are buying . On doing a little research I can see Calor say the bulk tank needs a clearance of 3 m all round. The one corner of the proposed conservatory would only be around 1m from the tank. What are my options? If I switched supplier would they move the tank for free? Any…

Heating Conservatory & Garden Office. Mix Calor Gas & Electric?
Dear All, we have a small conservatory (~3m x 3m) which we use as dining room (the space of the house doesn't allow to eat in the house) and also a shed converted to a home office during Covid. Both are at the moment heated just with portable electric heaters, which of course was already very expensive last winter, and…

LPG
The team and Martin do fantastic work on our behalf re energy prices and advice - however for those of us without mains gas we are stuck with LPG (or oil or electric) - there are only a few LPG suppliers and they hold us to ransom increasing prices as and when they feel it necessary. Is there anything we can do to bring…

Good quality smokeless coal ?
Just wondering what everyone’s recommendations are for a good quality/burn smokeless coal ? We’ve tried a few different ones over the last few years, but stuck with Homeflame Ecoal 50, as it was the only one we found that truly burnt through each ‘nugget’ leaving just ash to clean out. Coal like Brazier we found that…

Can you hedge Heating Oil price rises using WisdomTree HEAT ETC?
Good morning all, Heating Oil has dropped to about 84-88ppl at current time, but my gut feel is that prices will rise a lot at some point in Winter just when I need a top-up, perhaps through panic buying like in march this year I have some big oil and wind-farm shares and although they have increased a bit, these aren't…

Gas vs Oil price increase per unit (kWh) with the New Price Cap Increase
Hi, So there's a recent announcement I'm sure you are all aware of that the price cap will go up by 80% by the first quarter of 2023 (70% by october) - https://www.moneysavingexpert.com/utilities/what-is-the-energy-price-cap/ They says this is a strong prediction so is likely to be accurate. I can't find any specifics on…

Oil Boiler Issues
Hi guys, Couple of issues I’m trying to rectify: 1) Optimising flow and return temps for hot water boost. 2) Hot water comes on intermittently by itself. We have a one year old condensing Grant oil boiler in the cellar. For optimising flow and return temps I have purchased two pipe thermometers. I have the boiler temp…

Smokeless coal, buy NOW
I have just had a pallet of the stuff delivered (1 ton). It turns out that HomeBargain still has last spring's prices, i.e. £4 per 10 kg bag (found out by accident and bought it immediately) Next cheapest was a local coal merchant at £4.40 per 10 Kg. Range is selling the same as HB, but now at £6.50!!! (it used to be 4…

£400 rebate for homes heated by oil
Am I right in thinking that the rebate cannot be used to purchase heating oil but instead must be credited to an electricity account? I am very careful with all energy usage but in the case of electricity I'm on a good fixed rate and also have solar panels. What I could really benefit from is £400 towards filling my oil…
