Coalbroke Severn Not Heating up

we’re have recently moved house and the log burner doesn’t seem to be kicking the heat out enough. We are using only seasoned wood it has a good draw so I have changed the draw vent down once the fire gets going. The front doors are red hot but the top and sides only warm. Advice and help please

I see there is a query about a severn not heating up properly here: https://www.whatstove.co.uk/coalbrookdale-severn-stove-reviews not sure if that helps?

    Is yours a boiler model?
  • Have you had a log burner before, they take a bit of practice to get right (would add I only know this through experience of getting it wrong many times).
What's the condition of the rope around the door, are there any baffles on the stove chimney.
  • yes ropes look like they need replacing. I pulled the baffle down for the first time since we moved in it was full of soot so I brushed it off. The doors are hot the top is only ever just warm. It is a multi fuel fire. Trying not to put the heating on so just wanting to generate some heat but we seem to be burning a lot of wood / coal for very litttle heat. I can only see one adjustable vent which i open fully when getting it going and then turn down once is going
  • Yes this our stove on the link have read this but our issues continue ie no heat radiating off

It sounds to me like you have a similar issue to that link - the fire is burning well but the heat is not getting a chance to build up at the top of the stove.  The heat has to be going somewhere and the most likely "somewhere" is up the flue.   This would indicate that either the baffle plate isn't slowing the air-flow down, or too much air is getting drawn in somewhere else.  If you have been able to clean above the bafflle plate, then I assume it is back in the correct position and that it hasn't become warped with use?

Can you get hold of a flue thermometer to see what the flue temp is?

Leaky door and glazing seals are a possibility, or a vent is remaining open.   As far as I can see from the on-line diagrams, there is a controllable vent on each door, which I presume is opening and closing properly when you use it.  There is seemingly also a factory-set vent on the inside of the door, which controls the secondary combustion/air-wash system - I wonder if this has somehow been moved?
