Free govt boiler scheme

Hi.
I'm on universal credit and unfit for work. I have an old gas back boiler fitted about 40 years ago.

I was wondering if anyone had any info on the govt free boiler scheme any any good reliable companies?

The latest scheme is ECO4 (  www.gov.uk / energy-company-obligation ) and aimed at homes with energy inefficient houses, based on the EPC rank - your house needs to be D-G to qualify for the grant. It seems that different councils are signing up at different times, look for a "statement of intent" from your council which indicates they are supporting the scheme. It's only just launched.

To my reading if you're on UC with old boiler you'd qualify, and should be able to get a new A rated gas boiler. If you qualify, someone does a survey of requirements then it's all or nothing - you can't pick and choose which ones to take, and one is to improve insulation. Again, that's only my understanding, I might be wrong.

Also, as the commitment is from the energy supplier, you can try contacting whoever that is to see their position. From what I've heard if it's a simple job you are more likely to get a response.

There are links to suppliers and companies from the ofgem site. The installation company has to be trustmark approved.
