Cheap Energy Club new password reset not working, alternative comparison sites?
Hi, I tried to log in to the Cheap Energy Club today and I see the site has had changes, and it says as part of it, I need to reset my password. I've tried several times, but the "verification code" never arrives (yes, I've refreshed many times and checked spam folder). There's no contact or any other way to report the…

Moving from the Standard Variable Tariff to a Fixed Tariff and Smart Meters
Hello, I'm on the Standard Variable tariff with my Energy provider, which is one of the Big Six providers, and am seriously considering going on a fixed tariff to avoid the price increases. However, I am dubious about going onto a smart meter which is why I have stayed on the standard variable tariff. Generally speaking…

Cheap Energy Club got it wrong again !
Bizarrely, they had my electricity use at 5148 kWh when Scottish Power said it was 1376 ! That's four times too high and, incredibly, even greater than my gas usage - which was correct. That is second time they have got my current figures wrong - see my earlier thread. Why isn't anybody checking for obvious, glaring…

Utility Switch British Gas V49. MSE Exclusive
So I have switched from my current British Gas/Electricity tariff to the one above only to find my DD has gone from £101 to £186 a month, twice the estimated cost! BG says its because my account is in debt, IT IS NOT IN DEBT!!! It was £94 in credit. Anyone else having issues with this? UPDATE. Sorted now. I have had the…

Solar panel headache
Hi I thought I would venture into this area in my old age for environmental reasons and to future proof my house (in case family have to move in to look after me or when house is sold in future as it has 5 bedrooms)Anyway I have always read you should get the biggest battery you can but I am having to fight companies who…

Octopus refund and billing errors
Ever since the additional payments were made by the government to help with energy bills, we've had them paid to Octopus. Our balance rose steadily, we made choices to switch to lower fixed tarrifs when available. Our meter readings may not be as regular as they'd like but fit in with the intermediate estimates. For the…

Octopus -Backbill Jan2020 or legitimate?
Hi – I will first put that Octopus Energy have emailed me
(*on behalf of a family member who I set up the account with as they did not
have access to internet) saying that there is a statement from January 2020
that is unpaid and they’re now
threatening all sorts of actions due to it. The fact this is 5 years ago means…

Embarrassed to ask about energy calculations for possible energy switch.
I am embarrassed to ask but I really am not good at and struggle with arithmetic - even with a calculator. I have a fixed rate Gas and Electricity with Octopus to 30 June and I understand there is no penalty for an early exit. Just now, including VAT, Electricity is 23.5 p kWhand dailty charge is 61.25 p and, for Gasit is…

Smart Meters-Hidden in the Small print- beware
So I noticed my credit going up on my dual tariff electricity account, Gas was being taken but no billing for electricity except for the first few months. I wrote to them and said why weren't you billing me as i have a night rate for car charging and the day rate. They couldn't extract the half hour data. i checked if…

New smart meter not working - insufficient WAN
We have a new house in the Scottish Highlands and had a meter put in by British Gas in the build phase; we switched suppliers to Octopus once we moved in. Octopus tell us that smart meter is not able to communicate with them due to lack of WAN in the area. It's frustrating as we put in solar panels and want to export…

Is this how they calculate Direct Debit payments?
HiI assume that when energy companies calculate your Direct Debit monthly payment they base this on your estimated usage, with a view that you should have zero credit on the 1st April the following year? So that you can then build up credit during the summer before the more expensive winter months. Is this correct please?…

A good test for EOn Customer Services
I'm in the process of switching from Octopus to EOn which has gone awry so I've logged it with EOn's customer services. I thought I'd post a blow-by-blow account here as the matter progresses so anyone who's interested can see how good or bad they are it dealing with it.* My SMETS2 meter was originally installed by EDF on…

Intelligent Octopus Go - EV Charging Schedules good, but being charged at peak rate
Hi. I'm on 3-phase supply so it's taken me a while to get a smart meter installed at home, in fact I gave up on British Gas (who kept sending single phase engineers) and moved to Octopus who sorted it quickly. It's a Kaifa meter which I've read means the Octopus Home Mini won't work, so no live readings but I can see usage…

Heat pump tariff
I had a heat pump installed by my landlord where it is now costing me almost £200 a month with Scottish Power. My house is set to 16 degrees, I’m in a small 2 bed house with my daughter and we are out most of the time. I have tried to switch to Octopus today where I was told I failed the credit check and would have to pay…
