Off Peak hours not what I expected. Do they vary?

Hello,

I've been on the very good Quantum Dimplex tariff with British Gas. It's been great but it is ending soon and rather annoyingly, there isn't a replacement Quantum Dimplex tariff. So much for that partnership between the two….

So I am trying to find another tariff to move onto. I found a good one last night with British Gas but once I'd signed up and checked the small print, the Off Peak was only for 5 hours rather than 7, and ended at 5am. There was no way of checking that before I signed up.

I'd not seen such a short time for Off Peak. I thought it was always 7 hours with some variation of start/finish between suppliers?

Not sure what to do now other than to sign up for another tariff and then see what the hours are in the small print?

What was the name of this very good tariff?

5 hours sounds like an EV tariff.

Economy 7 is seven hours (unless you're in Scotland). Other tariffs have different off-peak periods.

If your storage heaters are dual-supply with an off-peak feed switched by your smart meter, you might want to think about Snug Octopus.

    Can that, it's "temporarily unavailable".

    PeakSave Super Sunday Jul27 v1

It was cheaper for me, just, than the EDF one that ended last night on cheap energy club.

    I'm in Scotland.

    Hi,

Peaksave Super Sunday is a tariff which only offers cheap electricity from 9 to 5 on a Sunday.

That probably isn't going to work with storage heaters.

Maybe a different issue? This one did, just only midnight to 5am. I spoke to a customer service person this morning to withdraw from it.

PeakSave Sunday seems to be an add-on that offers five hours of half-price electricity on Sunday during the day. I've only found one mention of PeakSave Super Sunday in a note at the end of https://www.britishgas.co.uk/energy/peak-save.html : "You’ll get half-price electricity on PeakSave Sundays from 11am to 4pm – or from 9am to 5pm if you’re on our PeakSave Super Sunday tariff." It doesn't sound like anything like an E7 tariff or even like an EV tariff.

It's some hybrid someone came up with. My current is half price 11am to 4pm on a Sunday and off peak 12:30am to 7:30am. This one is half price 9 to 5 on a Sunday and Off Peak midnight to 5am.

Perhaps it was one aimed at electric vehicles and was categorised wrongly when I searched - I said I didn't want EV tariffs.

Yes, this is an add on to an existing tariff. There are a few suppliers that offer similar things - Scottish Power and Eon and EDF for example. I'm currently with EDF and they offer a Sunday Saver which is free electricity based on shifting consumption away from peak periods.

Indecision is the key to flexibility :)
