Fixed tariff that isn't fixed!
Apologies if this has been discussed before, but, we've just switched to EDF for a tariff fixed until 31st March 2014. We were told exactly how much we would be paying for both gas & electricity per month by direct debit, but now we've been told that they may adjust the payments depending on how much we use! We told them…

NPower or British Gas - Problem
I transferred from British Gas to Npower in October 2006 for both my gas and electric and i use token meters for both. The gas meter NPower put in was a new one so i got a new card, they told me it didn't matter for the electric, keep using the old British Gas key so i did. I wanted continuous meters putting in so phoned…

Do I jump from Npower and pay the £40 or Stick till 31/12? Opinions please
Hi all, I'd like some opinions please. Here's the lowdown. Tarrif: Npower Sign Online 20 Dual Fuel tied in till 31/12/11 Leaving Penalty: £40 Useage: approx 9000 kwh (£340) gas 3300 kwh (£340) electric annually. Direct Debit: £59 a month EDF's fixed till 09/2010 tarrif works out at £60.70 for the same amount, so not too…

Am I tied into a contract
Hi there, I changed both my Gas and Electricity to British Gas 'Websaver 11' back in April. Am I stuck with this for 12 months now or am I free to leave? I haven't had any paperwork since switching (I was on another BG tariff before switching) so do not know. Thanks for any help.

Npower 4 to 5 digit meter problems, moving house want to change supplier
Hi, Any advice would be much appreciated. My problem began in April this year. I received a quarterly electricity bill for nearly £4k. I rang Npower straight away as this seemed ridiculous because I live in a small 2 bed flat. I was told that my meter was in fact a 5 digit meter rather than 4 and would have to pay this…

I'm almost £500 in credit with SSE...
...so naturally I called up and asked for it back - but they've said no. No because a couple of the bills are estimated, but we had an SSE guy come round last week and get a proper meter reading. But that's still not enough! They're saying I have to wait for my six-monthly bill in order to get it back 'in case I'm not in…

Switching from one to another
Hello all, Quick question, and I apologise if it's a really simple one but... I want to sign up for EDF's Fixed Saver v2 (leaving British Gas), so do I just fill out my details on EDF's website, inc Direct Debit and they'll sort the change for me? I dont want to suddenly find I'm paying DDs to both EDF and BG! I also have…

To fix or not to Fix, this is the question
Because of the reported likelyhood of increases in energy bills I've had a look at a number of fixed or capped tariffs for my old dear and I'm not sure what to do, hence the request for advice for those more in the know than me... Her yearly gas usage: 23206 KWH Her yearly Elec usage: 4348 KWH (based on June 2010-June 2011…

Switching suppliers with a Smart meter
I've just done a comparison with USwitch and gone for EDFs Fixed 2012 tariff. We have a smart meter (currently with BG) and have done since November last year. How will this affect reading the meters? Will we have to update with an actual reading before each bill is issued like we used to? Or will the company be able to…

How do I choose a supplier when I don't know useage?
My DS1 is about to flatshare with 2 others, he has asked me to find the best gas/elec deal - I have no idea of the previous occupants useage. Is the best way just to look on the comparison sites?

Has anyone any info on when SSE will announce price rises?

Electricity connection from property to pole
I hope this is the correct place - anyway. My house is a 1950's semi, the guttering is in a bad way (and I have to soffits or fascias - yet) the power to the house comes from a pole in the street to a connection near my roof line, from which a drop comes down into my house and a second cable is tacked to the joist ends…

Electricity Company Direct Debits closed my Bank Account
Hi last year I paid my electricity company a fixed amount each month by Direct Debit. However in the Autumn at the end of last year they took nearly twice the amount out which resulted in me being overdrawn at the bank. Then they took the incorrect amount again which they returned and asked me to pay the correct amount via…

OVO Imperial measurement
Just received a call from ovo my gas and electricity supplier saying that my gas bill has inaccuracies in it. Their representative went on to say that they have been billing me using the metric metre rather than imperial. She then went onto say that my gas consumption was higher than they had originally calculated then…

Beware of Eon final bill when switching
Just received a letter from y supplier Eon telling me that I'm about to be switched off my tariff that gives me 6% DD discount, 2% duel fuel and 17.40% online discount. I guess this is common amongst suppliers, however on investigating how to switch I noticed in the small print that if I do leave them then they will not…

The low users discussion area (under £600 per year total fuel costs)
I thought this might be a good idea as most of the offers and tariffs available are geared towards average and higher usage customers. I've discovered over the years that most companies' tariffs work against us......by which I mean that one often has to pay a higher rate for the first chunk (or 'tranche' or whatever it is…
