Electricity connection from property to pole
I hope this is the correct place - anyway.
My house is a 1950's semi, the guttering is in a bad way (and I have to soffits or fascias - yet) the power to the house comes from a pole in the street to a connection near my roof line, from which a drop comes down into my house and a second cable is tacked to the joist ends accross and into next doors house.
I'm having fascia, soffit and guttering fitted, I think that Western Power will put covers on the cables between my house and the pole for free. But I'm not sure about moving the cable connecting to next door (via my roof) and what costs are likely to be impossed. I've already had to pay a small fortune to move the meter and really dont want to pay again!
thanks

There is usually a charge for moving the supply cable.
With hindsight, it would have been better to have this done when the meter was moved.
However, with the complication of next door's supply also being fixed to your property, it may be possible to negotiate a deal with the electricity supply company so that next door's cable is moved to a better fixing point at the same time as relocating your own cable to allow for the facias to be redone (since I assume that next door would not be willing to contribute to the cost ?)This is a system account and does not represent a real person. Hindsights 20/20 and all that!
But, as it happens they covered the cables and unattached the supply cable to next door all free of charge. The supply cable been reattached today.

Hi evilgoose - I had a simular situation where next doors power supply was fed from a junction box
on my roof, then draped across both properties.
In fact a mate in the fire brigade pointed out the whole set-up was a hazard as in the event of fire the mains wiring to next door could not be isolated - A letter to the supplier resulted in each house been given it's own overhead line from the street pole.0
