Dumb question alert! How do I read my PAYG meter?
I have a PAYG meter for electricity, I've called the company who supply my electricity and they're only able to provide an estimate. There's a figure that appears on the meter when I roll through the screen, but it's huge and absolutely not reflective of how much I spend in a month. Is there a way to get an accurate…

Smart meter incompatibility and chaos
I have had a smart meter with E.ON for a number of years and it works fine. When it was installed E.ON told me that, while the meter belongs to them, if I ever changed supplier, the major suppliers subscribe to an information interchange scheme and meter readings would be automatically passed to them. Following lobbying…

HI I manage the energy bills for my elderly parents with tariffs etc I had a rude awakening recently with a massive hike in direct debit for gas from £47 to £234 in April. I then looked at the usage history etc and there is a HUGE spike in July and then even bigger in September and October suggesting £1900 gas usage per…

Switching from dual fuel to seperate suppliers
Hi, I've been with outfoxthemarket for electricity and gas since April on their variable zapp tariff, however the prices have gone up and so has my energy usage. We are heating an inflatable spa which seems to be costing us about £25 a month extra so as a consequence i've now gone up into the £13.99 a month membership very…

nPower
I am currently in a fix until the end of October. I believe that I will not have to pay an exit fee if I am within 50 days from the end of the contract. I have calculated this to be about 11th September. However, I know it takes a while to switch and I could request that a "switch" takes place on 11th September to avoid…

Do I have to pay ?
Back in early April 2018 I ran out of heating oil. I rang my usual suppliers and they told me they were busy and couldn't supply for 10 -14 days. So, I thought I'd ring round and see what my options were. One company told me that they could deliver quicker than the 10 days and they were slightly dearer so I went with them.…

NPower's misleading 'on track' messages
We were with NPower for dual supply gas+elec for two years. Each month I submitted meter readings and accepted their 'on track' messages. Sometimes I increased the monthly DD and sometimes decreased it, following their own recommendations. We switched in April during another 'on track' month, only to find them deducting…

British Gas is to launch a £100m customer loyalty scheme in April.
Read more here: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-39044789 But £100m divied up amongst circa 10m customers will mean an average reward of about a tenner, I calculate ... so probably a lot less than most people are paying over the odds to BG anyway.

Scottish Power increases bill after Ombudsman complaint
Brief background: Scottish Power installed a credit meter in January this year (I was an existing pre-payment/key meter customer) but they never allowed me to pick when I was billed or what tariff I was on and they would never, ever accept meter readings from me despite trying online and over the phone, where I'd either…
