DWP Recovery from Estate
My Dad passed away in September aged 98. The house he lived in was purchased from the Council in 2016 by my husband in Dad's name (valued £180,000) and he left just under £40,000 in the Halifax. I've had a letter from the DWP regarding claiming on his estate as he was in receipt of pension credit, I knew how much he got…

Any experience of posthumous pupoc claims?
My mother died almost two years ago. In the last 10 days of her life I asked the care home manager and GP several times to apply for her fees to be paid as she was at end of life stage. I even completed the assessment and emailed it to the GP to expedite. For reasons that have never been explained, the GP claimed she sent…

Why £1 earnings to qualify for Help To Save?
Hi there, I'm very confused about the £1 earnings threshold for Help To Save. Why such a low amount? What does it mean? Could you be to all intents & purposes unemployed, but do a bit of casual work for someone (in order to earn any small amount over £1) and that then means you qualify? Thanks in advance for any help

Inheriting a house
I am about to update my will. I would like to leave my eldest daughter my house. As she is on benefits - and likely to be for the foreseeable - would this affect her benefits? She is currently in a housing association property but would obviously move out of this and into mine. Also, if she decided she didn’t like the…

Holiday when on UC
Hello everyone, quick question. We have told UC our travel dates and reason for being away for a week (holiday) and they are insisting we tell them where we are going. I cannot find anything on the Gov website that states you have to tell them your destination only reason for travel and dates away. I am looking for UC to…

Been on UC for over a month without attending any appointments or form filling?
Just got put straight on it, Is this normal? I have a deputy so he sorted it for me. Does this mean I won't have to attend any future appointments and look for work. Is it worthwhile keeping the deputy or if I get rid off it (I don't have a choice anymore as the LD psychologist who did the assessment wrote I've reached the…

Joint UC account, does partner keep claim if I take pension?
Hi, we’ve had a UC claim for years as a couple. I’ve been working self-employed and reporting my varying income and expenses, month by month. I turned 66 in January. Our payment includes components for Carer’s Allowance (to me), and Limited Capability to work (partner). It’s financially advantageous for me to claim the…

Another Deprivation Of Assets question!
I am currently on contributions based new style ESA. Currently I am over £16K in capital savings, but I am forward planning for when my contributions based new style ESA terminates after 12 months. And considering if there are legitimate routes to reducing my capital (eg debt repayment, pensions). Can I: a) contribute to a…

HICBC is Greater Than Amount Received by Child Benefit
Can anyone explain why my High Income Child Benefit Charge is more (£249 more) than the Child Benefit I actually received in 24/25? I have just completed my self-assessment tax return and HICBC is the only reason I need to file. * In 24/25 I received £1,331 in child benefit. * I'm a high earner (£80,000+) so expect to pay…

Warm Home Discount Broader Group, Scotland. Octopus Energy's own criteria.
I have applied under Octopus Energy's own criteria - no means tested benefit requirement: Disability benefit and, specified by Octopus, low income. Nothing to do with DWP means tested benefit or Core Group requirement. It is The Broader Group Scotland. On application I also submitted proof/documents of DLA (care and…

Help! Friend's benefits have been stopped
Hi, help would be good. My friend was migrated over to UC a while ago but may still be on some ESA as he is now saying his ESA has been stopped. He is unsure if he is still getting DLA (yes he's definitely still on DLA rather than PIP). He's really struggling for money, he says he's not well enough to ring DWP about…

Care Home Fees
Hi My Mum has a degenerative brain disorder called Progressive Supranuclear Palsy (PSP) and because of the rapid deterioration over the last few months she was placed in residential care. Universal credit and the £6000 threshold
Hi MSE Forum. 1st-time poster here, but I am familiar with forums. Since 2010, I am a single working tax credits claimant, working 30 hours a week. I also have the disability element including the extra given from PIP's enhanced rate. I've finally had the letter to convert to universal credit, and my understanding is that…

"ESA Payments are Ending." is this a scam?
Hello, I received a text message, supposedly from the DWP, on 21.11.2025. This is all it said... To be clear, I did not receive anything in the post before or after this text message. I am currently on EESA, which to my knowledge, is not due to be migrated to UC, unlike Incomes-related ESA. Can anyone confirm whether this…

UC/Interest
Hi my understanding is that personal injury compensation is disregarded for a period of 52 weeks from when it lands in the bank account. And if placed in a trust it's disregarded indefinitely for UC. When the compensation is put into a trust account any interest paid on the money is this also disregarded?
