Loan towards a house
Just posted this on my journal, what do you think they will say??? "Hi, I recently put my house up for sale and intend to move once sold. I will probably have to add funds to my house sale price as my property is non standard construction and so lower value. I intend to take out a personal loan of around £25k to add to the…

Housing Benefit: Notional income from pension fund
I have a Self-Invested Personal Pension. I also have a Housing Benefit claim. And I live in Glasgow. I have £22,650 in my pension fund. I receive no pension payments. As I am 67 years-old, I can opt to withdraw cash from my pension fund. Given this, I think that for the purpose of calculating my rate of Housing Benefit,…

Housing Benefit: Overpayment
How far back can a council go in terms of recovering from a claimant an overpayment of Housing Benefit? For example, if a council has considered buildings insurance to be an eligible charge for the previous five years, and suddenly it decides that this is not an eligible charge and that it has made an error resulting in…

ESA migration to UC
I understand that UC require evidence of identity. Does anybody know what UC can do if the person migrating to UC does not have any id? They only have a bus pass, blue badge and ESA/DLA letters. The person is non verbal, cannot read or write. I just want to be prepared for when the migration letter arrives. Thanks

What is classed as resident?
Not sure if anyone can help or has any advice. My mother in law died recently and so my father in law now lives alone. His income is just 226.05pw state pension plus £211per month private pension but he lives in a council house paying £110pw rent so left with very little after rent and bills. I know it's probably not 100%…

Statutory sick pay and tax-free/30 hours funded childcare
Hi, My wife is on statutory sick pay. She would otherwise be earning enough to qualify for tax free childcare and 30 funded hours. From what I can see from HMRC (https://www.gov.uk/hmrc-internal-manuals/tax-free-childcare-technical-manual/tfc10500), we are still eligible. However, the question when reconfirming eligibility…

Wife's pension found - but what to do?
I am my wife's full time carer. We get Universal Credit and I make a few extra pounds doing this and that locally, and we get by. Just discovered that my wife has a pension from decades ago when she worked for a big bank. We have to decide whether to take a 25% tax free cash lump of it, a yearly pension, or transfer…

Do I have to report this?
I am on UC. Last week they sent me over £2000 as arrears of underpayment because they messed up TP when I migrated in 2021. All well and great but this takes my bank balance over £6000 now. I know arrears are disregarded for a year but someone told me I still need to declare being over limit even though they gave it to me…

Childcare less than tax free limits, worth overpaying?
My childcare costs will reduce in September due to 30 hours funded hours. My child will be 2 in October. The "free money" form the government is temping but as my childcare fees will be much lower than the £2k a quarter I need to put in the account, is there any point? My nursery is council owned so 30 hours means 30 hours…
