Housing Benefit and Council Tax
Good afternoon. My brother (58) suffered a haemorrhagic stroke last November. He was paid Statutory Sick Pay for 28 weeks. It is unlikely he will work again and is now in receipt of full PIP and UC. Should he have been entitled to housing and council tax benefit during this time? He is waiting to be rehoused in sheltered…

If I sell my house how will my UC be affected?
i get the disabled/support rate of Universal Credit. If i sell my home & move in with my elderly parents what happens to my UC? Would PIP be affected? If I sold my house I'd obviously get a chunk of money that would be over the £16,000 savings limit of UC. So would my UC stop immediately? That house money would either be…

UC and ESA applications confusion
Having now had to give up work due to my epilepsy I recently made application for UC and also for ESA. I understand its not unusual but failed to receive either of the promised phone calls min respect of each! Eventually, received a call from UC to be told that it had been granted, check later on my journal for details. No…

Can DWP demand payback of an Attendance Allowance overpayment after death?
The overpayment was made after my mother passed away. They were obviously made aware of her passing. I know they can request the overpayment back for state pension overpayments but are **not** allowed to enforce repayment. Is it the same for Attendance Allowance? Thanks for the help.

PIP Timeline
Just wondered if anyone could give me an idea of how long they waited once their PIP application was submitted? I initially had an application deadline of 25th July but asked for 3 extensions as I was finding it really hard to complete the form. I posted it on Wednesday 10th September and I was just wondering how long…

Carer Status
Hi, am currently working but have recently reported that I am a full time carer for someone that receives DL PIP. The following day I was sent new commitments and work plan that state I no longer need to be actively looking for work, I am massively confused as my commitments and plan are identical to my previous…

Moving from living off private pension to state pension
I have long-term health issues and have effectively retired early (63). I fortunately have a private pension which I am using to pay my rent and bills (I am not a homeowner). When I am 67 I can claim my state pension. Hypothetically, could I stop/reduce withdrawing funds from my private pension and instead claim Housing…

DWP debt
So a few years ago, during covid, i went and got some income support, for a few months. I was still doing some casual work, and it was all declared, there were a couple of questionable months, where i didn't declare, such were my conditions at home. Anyway, the DWP have been chasing me for over 11k, which is the whole…

owning a property too small for my family - UC
Hello, I have recently come into some money and have enough to buy a 1 bed flat that im planning on renting out or AirBNB. I have three children, so I will have to continue renting a house as we wont all fit in a 1 bed, and my mortgage capacity is too low to buy anything else. My question is, will I still be able to claim…

Roll up holiday pay and Carers Allowance
Hi I currently get carers allowance for my disabled son and earn less than the threshold for eligibility through a part time job. I start a new job in 3 weeks in an education setting and while my weekly pay is still within the limit to still be able to claim carers allowance, my new employer pays Roll Up holiday pay each…

UC want bank statements
Hi all, I still have a UC claim open but due to a pay rise, I haven't actually received any UC since August, and I'm therefore expecting my claim to be closed next month. Earlier this month I received a £4K gift from a relative. As this took me over £6K in savings, I did the right thing and reported it (even though I'm not…

Inheritance gifts whilst on UC
My kids grandma wants to gift my kids money. It'd be a few thousand. She's not had the best health and is trying to divest bits of her estate so the 7 year law is applied. The kids have their own current accounts and debit cards, but are only 12 and 14, so obviously live with me. I'm concerned the DWP will view it as my…

Child Maintenance & salary increases
Hi everyone, I've just been paid for my new job which is a £4000 salary increase on the old one. I was a little shocked to discover that this £4000 'pay rise' equates to a weekly take-home increase of just £8.25. I've had the new employer check and performed checks myself, amazingly it seems that is correct. In November I…

Universal Credit Review and Undeclared Inheritance
I'll try and keep this concise but I might end up waffling. I lost my mother to cancer late last year and received an inheritance totalling £15k. I could probably go in to detail about my state of mind in relation to how I've handled things this year after losing mum but I understand in this situation it wouldn't really be…

Cancelling UC
Hello. I have been on UC since it started due to severe depression. Last month someone offered me a job (starting 1st September) working from home processing data. My councellor, who I saw last week, has suggested that it would help me get structure into my life. I have to fill my income form in on 12th of every month.…

HOw can a black cab driver on UC expense the purchase of a new taxi?
Asking for a friend here (no honestly). I'm not a black cab driver. Friend is a black cab driver with a disability so they work reduced hours and thus now on universal credit. Theyre dyslexic so I help them with their monthly claims. Their black cab is going to be past it soon and will need to buy new one. Does UC Self…

PIP Renewal Success
Well the title says it all, my current claim was due to run out in December 2025. I received the dreaded renewal AR1 form in June and sent it back within the time frame. Then silence until today when a lovely white letter dropped though the post. I opened the letter to think it would be an appointment for the dreaded…
