Ideas for a knitted gift for a 6 year old boy
Hi all I have found a pattern for a doll and two dresses in a library book and I am making one each for my daughters and nieces for Christmas. However don't want to leave my son out but can't find anything suitable as he is a bit past cuddly toys now. Any ideas? If there is a free pattern anywhere even better, otherwise…

Help me rescue my cake!
I need help! I made this last night, and it's a stodgy brick - like a dense brownie - rather than a light cake. It's also sunk hideously in the middle. http://www.bbc.co.uk/food/recipes/ch...fee_cake_72340 I've not iced it yet, and need to salvage it to serve it up tonight to friends which we watch Great British Bake Off,…

Does anyone make their own spring/pancake rolls?
I fancy giving these a go but there are so many variations of wrap to use. I know I can go to an Asian supermarket to get spring roll wraps, alternatively I can use filo (which I'm thinking the wraps are but in the right size/shape) or alternatively the bbc food website has a recipe actually using the flat pancakes we have…

Raw onion smell in fridge
I made the mistake of opening a bag of diced onion and leaving half in the fridge. This was months ago and still it smells of onion every time I open the door. I seem to remember someone posting how to get rid of smells from fridges but can't remember if it was to use lemon or not. Help. Hate the smell of raw onions.

I think I might be a (lazy) genius :D
I'm happy to confess that I hate housework. I really detest it and find it incredibly tedious. However, I've decided I need to do something about my laziness regarding this. I've looked at various threads and even the wonderful "Flylady" thread didn't inspire me. I know - shock horror! So I've come up with an idea. I've…

Im not a big cook and my cullinary skills don't stretch very far but i thought i would have a go at making a curry to freeze instead of splashing out on takeaways. Just add water homemade 'soup'
I had this idea and wondered what you thought, if you'd every seen/done this: I thought I could finely chop some veg plus rice noodles plus stock and some flavorings (herbs, thai paste etc) take it to work and then just add hot water for a decent lunchtime soup. Do you think it would work?

Oven or simmer?
I need to do a stew for 2.5 hours at 150 C in the oven. My oven is electric. Is this cheaper than simmering on a gas stove for 2.5 hours?

Getting boots altered
I'm not sure if this belongs in here but I couldn't really find anywhere else :) Anyways, I bought some new boots from a charity shop the other day and they are PERFECT, except for the fact that I have skinny legs and the boots are huge round the top. The rest of the boot fits fine, it's really just the leg that's an issue…
