What would you do with old candlewick bedcovers?
I've been clearing out and have found a couple of old candlewick bedcovers. I wouldn't want to put them to the charity shop as they are torn in a couple of places. I do have a sewing machine but am not an expert by any means. I did think about trying to make a kaftan type house coat but thought I would ask the OS experts…

Food: quality vs quantity?
Hi all, I would like to discuss what do you choose when planning meals for your family : quality or quantity? For example, when I was single I always preferred to buy high quality products, only organic and only the best. If I could not afford it I simply would eat smaller portions or would not eat Meat or fish at all. Now,…

what can I use tahini for (not hummus)
I brought some tahini intending to make my own hummus, but when I costed it, it is cheaper to buy ready made. I am sure it would be cheaper to make if I needed lots or had a large family but there is only me that would eat. Any suggestions what else I could use it for / with thanks

hand of pork
Bought a hand of pork today, bone and all, on a whim. What can I do with it besides roast it? Any thoughts....?

Instead of buying a recipe book stand, try this....
Ok, it doesn't look as good but it will save you money and you can just put it back in the wardrobe when you don't need it in the kitchen! I have just tested it using a childs skirt hanger and it worked fine. It was the type that you just squeeze the clips to insert the skirt, the one above won't be as good as you have to…

Silicone taste transfer from kitchen utensils
I love using silicone spatulas. Their flexibility means I am able to scrape every last drop of cake batter, etc out of my mixing bowl. I also had silicone tongs which I thought were great as they wouldn't scratch my frying pans, and a innovative silicone colander that folded flat to fit neatly in a drawer. As time went by,…

Butter or spread?
Hiya just wondered what spread you use on your bread/toast or even for every day cooking. I used to use things like clover, utterly butterly, or flora buttery. I have now switched back to using proper butter. It's tastes so much nicer and there are none of the additives these spreads have in them. Just wondered what your…

Anyone remember Green Shield Stamps?
For some reason, just thought of them. I remember licking and sticking them into little rectangular books, about 40 to a page, but I've no idea what my parents did with them when the books were full; I don't even remember the gift catalogue. Did anyone get anything useful with them? [purplesignup][/purplesignup]
