Freezing glass bottles

Hello,
I've done a google search and seem to get a wide range of answers. I seem to be collecting quite a few 500ml glass bottles, the type with a screw top lid. As its blackberry season I'm looking at making quite abit of cordial, would it be possible to freeze this in my bottle, sterilized of cause??
Thanks for any help :j

I don't know that I would incase they crack or explode with the expansion as it freezes1

I have frozen things in glass bottles and jars many times. Providing you leave enough room in the bottle to allow for expansion of the cordial once frozen it shouldn't be a problem.

There is no need to put sealed glass bottles with cordial in the freezer. They can be heated (pasteurized) in a water bath to prolong shelf life.
Use a large deep saucepan, preferably as deep as your bottles. Stand the filled bottles with the lid screwed on, (leaving a 2cm space from the top) on a teatowel/cloth in the saucepan. Make sure the bottles do not touch each other, separate with cloth/kitchen roll if necessary. Fill the saucepan with water and bring to the boil and leave to simmer for 15 minutes. Leave the whole lot to cool down. Tighten the screw lids as necessary.
Label and keep in a cool, dark place. They will last a year. Once opened the cordial can be put in the fridge.
If the air does get in then the surface of the cordial may go green/white scummy but this is not usual as this method is reliable for acidic cordials.1 -
I'm not sure I would put glass bottles in the freezer - they could be fine, but you can use plastic bottles for the freezer. Fizzy drinks bottles and the like, or anything you can hoke out of a neighbour's/friend's recycling bin!

Glass bottles should be fine - as mentioned before, just leave plenty of room for expansion. If not, it's more likely the seal will break and you'll have sticky cordial in your freezerOctober 2013

Oooo thanks everyone for your replys, only thinking of using the glass as we gave away our chest freezer at the beginning of the year and only have a uncupboard one now, we are now in the market for a new chest freezer lol!
I think I can water bath them as I've done that with jam before (no pection and no sugar) will see if the bottle fits! Just dont think I trust the seal enough for us not to get ill from the cordial!!!!
Thanks againNessy x
