This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine.

    Good morning everyone :j

I was looking around my living room yesterday and it is brown, brown, brown! Cream and brown carpet, brown sofas, light brown furniture...you get the picture. I need some colour and warmth in there so I've contacted my friend who's an artist to come shopping with me. On the one hand, I don't like ornaments and knick-knacks cluttering up the place but my minimalist room just looks bleak. I've been on different websites this morning for some inspiration and I really like some stuff in Dunelm Mill so that will be our first port of call. It will be quite amusing trying to hold my friend back though as her studio looks like an explosion in a tinsel factory :eek:

My neighbour popped round yesterday with some apples and tomatoes she grows in her garden. The apples taste amazing and smell really 'appley' as well. I haven't tried the tomatoes yet but they look and smell lovely too. Puts my tesco fruit and veg to shame :)

Well, I'd better go and get ready, the bathroom is clear so I can quickly have a shower, then I can get DD10 up for breakfast. All my girls just have cereal in the morning at the moment but as the weather cools down I will be making them porridge and cooked breakfasts before school. I think I will cook the bacon and sausages the night before to save some time in the morning and then they can quickly be reheated.

Well, that's all my waffling for today, hope you all manage to have a great day whatever you are doing. Gentle hugs for all who would like one. Take care.
    Cheers m'dears x
  • Morning chums wet and miserable at the moment outside. This morning after the school run I have to nip to the local centre to top up my brothers English mobile for him He lives in France, and has one for the UK and one for France .His partner is coming over next week to see her eldest son so will use it when she is over. Then a quick trip to the library to pick up a book I ordered .
I want to knock up some melting moments biscuits for my DGS as a treat today so I'll do that when I get back.Another week nearly gone and September is flying away.Clocks change next month and we will be back to dark nights again.Still there is bonfire night to look forward to, and of course Christmas, so its not all doom and gloom.
Right I must get a wriggle on as I'm in need of some caffeine to jump start my day
Cheers chums have a good one what ever you are doing

TTFTM - Hang in there! Remember to breathe every now and again!
HH - Glad to hear you have been signed off for another 2 weeks, you need time to recover. You have a very demanding and stressful job that needs you to be in good health.

Well, I have worked my last evening shift - fed up of watching the management bleed the place dry while we have a bigger and bigger workload. No respect is shown by my Manager, the shift pattern is very unfair and I was generally miserable. I will just have to tighten my belt so I don't miss the money too much. Feels good though knowing that my evenings will be free again and if the move goes ahead it will give me time to get organised.

School today and then my turn at the Hospice which I always look forward to, DD has a day off and will wait in for the plumber as we have a leak behind the toilet.

Must get on and make my lunch, salad today but not sure what to do for tea, will think about that as the day goes on!!

    Take care. XX

    Morning everyone

Hugs to all those that are feeling sad/poorly x

Dull, dreich, cold here this morning.

DH up and off to work stupid early.

Dinner last night was lamb casserole, roast pots, and veg. Tonight may be spag bol but haven't decided yet.

Work wasn't too bad yesterday as was in a training session for most of the morning, so now on days off. Went to the opticians and my prescription has changed so I've had to choose between having 2 pairs of glasses or varifocals - so I'm going to give the varifocals a go, have chosen the frames etc now just need to wait for them to be made.

Hairdresser came last night - hair feels so much better this morning. Have a nail appointment this morning so will be going off to that later.

Head not in a good place again, so will try to just keep pottering - have all the normal chores to do, washing, drying, ironing, housework etc - it certainly helps to keep busy.

    Keep safe and well x

  • Morning Guys!

Been ages since I posted, but although really emotional ATM and feel constantly sick DD is off to Uni this weekend!! Can you believe it? Where have all them years gone?

She also has a job and has so much stuff, I'm hoping it will go in car ok? Ive been a wreck with it all and worrying 24/7 which has caused me to be quite ill, but know deep down she'll be ok. Think we've trained her well with all the practical and manners etc. Its just me :-( Her mate is staying for the first night and she wants us to drop, wants me to make her bed (Ive washed Dumbo, Thumper, Nemo and Dory!) for her, have some lunch together, then we leave! We're gonna be a mess!!

I will have all her bedding washed tomorrow whilst she's at work so its all fresh and smells like home. She has loads of stuff for the kitchen including food and I have to keep reminding myself, she will call if she's not sure. I use Non bio powder I buy off Ebay in 10kg bags, so have put some in a box with a tiny scoop as you only need a little as super concentrated and wrote on it for her. Also have her favourite Lenor.

I will have a box still here of stuff Ive picked up for her and her favourite dearer items etc, that I can post to her or if we visit or likewise. Hoping to still see her at least 1-2 times monthly and we'll skype etc as she's been very depressed over the past 6 months and is now on medication for that and awaiting an official diagnosis of Bipolar. We'll deal with it as we have done with everything else over the years and theres great support at her Uni.

Anyway, I'm still quite ill and been in an out of hospital, have a new zimmer frame as my hip keeps popping out, plus loads more but CBA to go into it. Still saving the pennies and have had to.

I'm gonna miss her soooooooo much.

    Hope you're all ok.

    Morning :hello:

Yesterday afternoon was great - scrambled eggs on toast, big bar of choc, endless mugs of tea and Harry Potter :D Then my yarn order arrived in a big box :j Why can't every day be like that? :D

I went to grab a towel out of the drawer last night, there were none. A quick hunt around and I found them in the corner of master tru's room, ggrrrrr. He has a shower/comes back from the gym and flings them on the floor after just one use. Words will be had later.

Shopping tomorrow, so I need to go through the cupboards and write a list.

Although I'm looking forward to our holiday (can't wait actually!), I'm planning what to do with myself when we get back. I have a mental list of things but need to really think about them. Eg. I want a job, but what sort of thing do I really like doing? I've always taken whatever's there for the money and put up with it (except the last one, I left because I had sciatica and I hated the work). I know I'm very lucky to now be in the position of being able to be a bit choosy. I want to enjoy going to work. I have lots of notebooks, I'm going to start scribbling things down and see what I come up with :D

  • Hi all,
Got a day off today! Need to drop BF at work, then it's off to the PO to pick up my parcel of yarn for Christmas presents, then to Asda. There's a couple of bits in George I want (I desperately need new clothes, but I'll make do with a couple of things!) and I'm planning to try making chilli burgers today - using some ideas from AGCJ and adding my own ideas in...

I applied for a Virgin credit card on Saturday as they have a 26 month interest free period for balance transfers... Wasn't sure I'd get accepted because I've been refused a few times in the past... Got an email to say I've been accepted and been given a credit limit of £4600!! I'm guessing this means my credit score is finally back on track! I can balance transfer all of my CC debt over, and plan to have it paid off within a year interest free!!! I know it's not a perfect solution, but I'm trying hard to get out of the cycle of just minimum payments spread across 3 CC's, so I don't seem to get anywhere with repayments. Fingers crossed it will all go smoothly.

Hope you all have a good day.
the only debt left now is on credit cards! The evil loan has gone!! :j:j
