This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine.

  • Morning all!

I forgot to tell Sammy I wanted a long lie so he woke me up at 5:45 as usual so am sitting here all bleary eyed.

Yesterday went rather well. Got my magazine, tended the seedlings, picked up books from library, found a gardening group I'd like to join and finished knitting a SANDS shawl. Have now cast on a Christmas blankie for my sister's cat.

    Today's plan:
    1. Tend seedlings
    2. Get house cleaner-ready
    3. Church
    4. Knitting group?
    5. Knitting

  • Hi all,
Had a late one last night - was round at BF's mums for tea. Had roast beef, veg, mash, yorkshires & mushy peas with choc sponge and choc custard for pud. It was absolutely lovely!
Having steak and chips for tea tonight. Took the steak out of the freezer on Friday morning and it still hasn't defrosted in the fridge! Going to sit it out on the kitchen bench today!
Need to do washing and have a general tidy up today before the working week starts again tomorrow :-(
Really looking forward to Downton Abbey starting soon... My Sunday nights will be sacred!
Saw a lovely ceramic chicken in Costco yesterday, and it had about 10 tiny little jars of bon maman preserves. Trying to have willpower not to go back and buy it!
Need to go to Asda for the top up shop this morning.
Hope you all have a good day!

    Morning

Back from holiday , had a lovely relaxing week , now ploughing through mountains of washing

House is fairly tidy , garden is too wet to do anything
Guinea pigs fed , cat fed and has now parked itself on my knee :)

Looking to reduce expenditure as we seem to have slipped off the straight and narrow. I need to go through everything and see where we can cut back

I am also going to look at the 'prepare for winter' thread. I want to make a curtain for the front door as there always seems to be a draught, I thought I would line it with an old fleece I have. I'm sure I will pick up lots of tips from the thread .

Haven't read back , so hugs for anyone feeling down / poorly

    Morning,

Didn't drp in yesterday it went far too quick.

I took tiddlers to MIL/FIL, then we went elderberry and blackberry picking, we got 4kg of elderberry's and 1.7kg of blackberrys:T, they are destined for wine and apple and blackberry crumble (crumble is made up for pudding for today).

Today was up at 6.30am as Jodie had been sick all over the landing (sorry if TMI) so thats been scrubbed but its stained the landing carpet .

Tiddlers are up with me, DS is sat under a blanket with me and DD2 is learning dance moves upstairs :D.

MIL/FIL are coming for dinner today, Rib of beef (cooked overnight ;)) all the veg DH prepped yesterday sweet pots, normal pots, swede/carrots, cabbage, green beans and parsnips, just need to make up yorkshire pudding mix and put in fridge ready for later ;).

Quite chilly this morning but lovely and bright. A few loads of washing to get through then DD1 will do the ironing :T.

I WILL sit down and do some of my crochet blanket as i want to start a granny ripple.

Didn;t watch X factor lastnight as i went to bed early , so will watch that too.

    Have lovely Sundays people xx

  • Good morning everyone :)

Still haven't done much thinking about work, I think my mind just wants to shut it off and pretend it's not happening.

Almost had a cooking disaster yesterday, DH was out training all day so I decided to do a batch cook with minced lamb. I made some stuffed peppers and put them on a slow cook in the oven all day .... or so I thought. DH gets home starving and I realise the oven light has been on all day but not the oven! Fortunately I had pre-blanched the peppers, the meat stuffing was pre-cooked as part of the batch and I had started the slow cook off with 20 minutes on high. So even after sitting in an off oven all day, they were still slightly warm and half hour in a moderate oven did nicely :o

Lemon chicken with the rest of the peppers tonight and some stir fried beanshoots. I think I will serve this one hot :rotfl:

Am about to strip the beds and put the washing machine on, then want to do some ebay listing while DH is training again today. I still keep looking at my hundreds of old postcards and wondering how to sell them, some listings on ebay do remarkably well but I don't seem to know how to list mine to sell. Am going to do some research today.

Oooh did someone says Downton Abbey? When is it back? Another fan here who can't wait.

Laura - what is a SANDS shawl?

Julie - I hope you have a lovely time during your brother's visit

Molly - I am glad your dad is doing well but so sorry to hear about your dog. You are really going through it at the moment, love and hugs and all sorts of positive vibes for you

Better get a move on so will leave with well wishes for all sick people and pets and hugs for anyone who needs or just wants them. Keep well and safe and have a super day :)

I want to know what a granny ripple is too, as well as a SANDS shawl. Do tell please.

Am really getting the urge to get my wool bag out and start making something but I need a bit of inspiration. Am thinking maybe an infinity loop cowl/scarf.

  • Morning all
Lazy start for me today, I'm only just out of bed & hubby's made the first cuppa.
I left a quilt on the line overnight and it must have rained as it's wetter than when I hung it out, still it's sunny now so it can stay out a bit longer.
Today's plans include carrying some clean washing upstairs and ironing more shirts for hubby.
I've worked out a way of changing the bed without it exhausting me, I change the pillow cases on Monday, the sheets on Wednesday and the duvet cover on Friday, woohoo, clean sheets without needing a nap.

I drove the car 4 times yesterday, hubby had to do 2 different shifts at work, without making any serious c0ckups, I wasn't sure if I'd have the bottle but I did, so I'm feeling pleased with myself.

Molly, I hope you are being careful and not overdoing things, hugs.

Tomorrow I need to phone BT, my home phone line isn't working but I have internet access, the phone line has been iffy for a while, ever since a runaway lorry caused considerable damage and wiped out the phone line to 50 local properties. Unfortunately the call center in India was unable to see the problem and it took weeks to put right. When the phone lines were sorted mine was still dodgy but the engineer insisted it was my phone, 5 phones later I now have no dial tone and the phone dings but doesn't ring.
Time I made hubby his cooked breakfast, first time in weeks.
    Have a good day everyone.
    Hugs Hester
    Chin up, Titus out.

    Morning all!
The sun is shining for now, so WM number 2 is on. Kitchen sorted out, couldn't be bothered last night after dinner. Masala chicken was yummy. Not sure what I will get up to today, will see how I feel once I get out of the shower.
    Have a good day all.
    RIP Iain
