OS Daily Tuesday 10th September 2013

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine.

• Good morning everyone :)

Another morning, another flying visit.

Very bad day at work yesterday, I really do need to keep my stress and emotions under control :o

Was convinced I had put weight on this week as have not been very good but somehow managed to lose 1.35kg, which takes total loss to 12.6kg or just a teeny tiny bit under 2 stone. That is incentive to be good this week and get through the 2 stone barrier.

Molly - I am so sorry to hear about Chay :(

Time to get going so will leave with usual well wishes for all sick people and pets and hugs for those who need them or just want them. Keep well and safe and have a super day :)

Morning all! Busy day today. Have to emerge from under the mountain of washing and ironing before family support worker, due to sons ASD gets here! House needs a good hoovering. I have two meetings tonight, PTA and scouts, need to do ironing and blitz the spare room as I can hardly get in it!!! Dinner tonight will be something from freezer. And I have to sort the bread machine out as with the weather change the bread has changed, so I need to go back to measuring the amount of water I use instead of guesstimating. Have good day all.
Me, OH, grown DS, (other DS left home) and Mum (coming up 80!). Considering foster parenting. Hints and tips on saving £ always well received. Xx

March 1st week £80 includes a new dog bed though £63 was food etc for the week.

• Morning all
Mr Noisy next door woke me at 4:45 again but I stayed in bed and eventually dropped of again til 6:30 when I got up and made a cuppa for me & hubby.
Fish fed & washing on the line, I'll move it over the maiden once it's had a blow through.
I'm happier today as I'm not looking round worrying about the dust & muck, the house is still untidy, but at least it's clean and I can potter about tidying on a daily basis.
TTFM, well done on the weight loss, hope work goes ok today.
Camelot well done on the house sale.
Jools hope your tummy settles down.
Glitter, make sure you get your breaks at work, you can't work all day without them.
Molly, hugs, sorry about Chay.
Hugs to anyone I've missed.
I nearly ran over a child yesterday, I was going to get hubby from work, 9:30ish, very dark and rainy, when I suddenly realised there was a kid, dressed in dark clothes, in the middle of the road, coming towards me on a skateboard, scared the bejeebers out of me.
Today's plans include more rows of my baby blanket and tidying the kitchen table, yet another lazy day.
Have a good day everyone
Hugs Hester

Morning everyone

Hugs to all those that are feeling sad/poorly x

Dull, dreich, overcast and raining here this morning. Temperature has really dropped to - hoping I don't need to put the heating on just yet though!

DH up and off to work stupid early.

Dinner last night was pork chops, mash, veg and gravy. Tonight will be fish, chips/jacket potato, beans/veg.

Work yesterday was steady but not the manic Monday's we've had over the past few weeks - we'll see what today brings. It was just as well we weren't horrendously busy as we kept having technology problems and for most of the morning I seemed to be running round helping out where the technology was letting us down - we're awaiting IT to visit to sort out 1 problem which they seem to be stumped with! Hopefully they'll put in an appearance today!

Will definitely be trying to get some baking/cooking done on my days off this week, I do really enjoy doing it - I just need to get back into the routine of doing it, then I'll be fine, saves money too as I can make quite a bit for very little money.

I'm also trying new foods - I bought fresh figs in the A**i Super Six - thinking if we didn't like/eat them then it wasn't such a waste - but I love them, just one of those things that I hadn't tried before.

Keep safe and well x

Morning all,

I've not had time to read or post for a couple of days. With my brother being here our days are busy out and about:D

It's been lovely, I've laughed so much my tummy is aching, we always did have a similar sense of humour.
:rotfl:

Today will be more visiting family, shopping and a meal at my other brothers lately.

Hope your all well, hugs and spoons all round x

• Hi all,

Thanks Hester - I do try and get them at normal times. Unfortunately sometimes I'm slow off the mark and everyone else has already gone on theirs and we can't all go at the same time!

Late shift at work today, so there until 8pm. Need to get up and make our lunches, but my bed is awfully comfy this morning!!
Bit annoyed yesterday - was wondering why I couldn't see my online savings accounts with Lloyds so I rang them to find that although my current account stayed with them, my online savings moved to TSB! Which is completely pointless as I then can't use them in the way I want! They also moved our joint account over which makes no sense as we opened it at a Lloyds branch. I then rang TSB and the guy filled in the application for my savings accounts to move back to Lloyds. I wouldn't have minded if they had told me, but they didn't write to me to say they were moving.
Oh well!
Have a good day all!
the only debt left now is on credit cards! The evil loan has gone!! :j:j

Morning all,

Day off for me today, but I will be busy at home, dropping dd at work this morning, then home to give the house a good going over top to bottom !

then I need to do an online shop and go and see my dad, if I have time I will get another coat on the walls.

Topsy no we have not finished yet :o, this room was really stripped back to the bare basics, so we now have 2-3 more coats to do on the walls, the 2 doors need taking off stripping and repainting, the radiator needs another coat then the window sill needs 2 , then its the floors to be laid, skirting to go on wardrobes to me built :rotfl: so still a way to go yet ! trouble is where we are both working during the week and me some weekends we have not had a lot of time.

Need to do a couple of washes today and dinner is brisket yorkshires roast spuds and veg, will do some stuffing for veggie dd.

Have good days all xx

Camelot, well done on your sale xx

Good morning everyone

It's a bit grey and damp here this morning but hopefully it will dry out and be a nice day today. The girls have gone off to school this morning ok, I did have a blazing row with DD10 earlier about the state of her bedroom. She's unlucky in that she only has a little room but a big hoarding habit. Anyway, I'm going to blitz it as a surprise for her but I've already promised not to throw anything away so I'm going to have to put my thinking cap on.

Thank you for all the well wishes yesterday, I feel loads better today and am looking forward to my breakfast. I hope joolz is feeling a lot better too.

I am being quite organized today. I've already made a shepherd's pie for tea and put it in the fridge and have a load in the wm and one in the dw. Going to tidy the living room in a minute after my cuppa and then start on my youngest's room of doom!

Hope everyone manages to have a great day and as always gentle hugs for all who would like one.
Take care
Cheers m'dears x

Morning :hello:

Oh Molly I'm sorry

My brother's girlfriend had the 20 week scan last week – it's a boy! Well, the woman said she's 98% sure :D So I have lots of blankets to make :D The GF is all bright clothes, dyes her hair all sorts of colours, extensions in then out again, so I thought she'd like bright baby things. But when it comes to babies, she's traditional and would like white, blue and lemon. Just as well I asked before I started, lol.

We had gammon, mash and parsley sauce for tea last night. The potatoes and parsley were from the garden *polishes halo* :D

Silicone AARRGGHHH! On our bath there's only a tiny gap between the taps and the wall, everything went smoothly until I had to go behind the taps then it got messy. I googled and found lots of advice, including using masking tape - Yes!! I thought, til I tried it, it was worse. Use soapy water, says google. Ermmmm no. I flung silicone covered tape, a couple of tools and the bowl of soapy water into the bath and went back to the old-fashioned way of doing it - apply silicone as neatly as you can, then spit on your finger and run it along the edge. Job done :D I had some Travis Perkins wipes (marvellous things) on stand-by, only needed them for when the tube leaked a bit after I'd finished - why does it carry on coming out when you're not touching it? I still have one side of the bath to do but that should be easy.

redruby your room sounds like our kitchen a couple of years ago - we had to scrape the (badly done) artex then get a plasterer to skim the walls. Started scraping and huge chunks fell off, right back to the brick. Previous owners had done everything themselves and decided that rendering over painted brick was a good idea  Everything went on hold while we removed the (cream and green!) paint and we had to have it all rendered and plastered. Our plasterer was fully booked but didn't want to let us down so he brought along his mate. Who was rather lovely to look at :D There's always an upside :D
