Help me rescue my cake!

I need help! I made this last night, and it's a stodgy brick - like a dense brownie - rather than a light cake. It's also sunk hideously in the middle.

I've not iced it yet, and need to salvage it to serve it up tonight to friends which we watch Great British Bake Off, of all things!

Any ideas what I can do? I've got the usual stuff in my baking cupboard, and cream.

Do you have a long, slender knife? Cut it into thin-ish slices and fill each with a thin layer of icing or whipped cream. If this doesn't work then make a trifle with it.

Get as much icing as you can on it and inside it.
Any cake tastes good with lots of icing!
    :)

  • Ha Jimmy!! Would you prefer butter icing or normal regular made-with-water icing?

Cut it into small blocks, warm it up in the micro and serve with ice cream/cream/chocolate sauce like choc brownie desserts they serve in those expensive American style diners?

    Butter icing, please.
Preferably with some wacky food colouring...

  • cut cake into bite size squares and use to make ice cream sundaes.
  • Thank you all for your advice - I ended up serving it with a massive dollop of cream and it went down a storm. I have no idea why.

A bit late, but it would have made a fantastic tiramisu. Some hot expresso, cream and marscapone would have sorted it out.
