Daughter Going Through a Divorce -Council Tax Demand Driving Us All Insane
My daughter fled an abusive and toxic marriage, leaving the family home, with her two children, in the dead of night two years ago. Her husband carried on living in the family home until May 2026. The Family Matters legal side is all sorted but the Financial Matters Final Hearing isn't until October 2026 (possibly, it will…

Out of the blue ... "Can we have a chat?"
How would you feel if you received a FB message from an old work friend, 20 years after you left? Bit weird, isn't it? If you want to reconnect with old friends, it's an odd wording to use. When is "a chat" ever good news!!? I've bumped into them in town since leaving and said hello etc, but not for about 4 years now. I…

Money Moral Dilemma: Should I push my grandad to tip more when we go for dinner?
This week's MoneySaver who wants advice asks… Every couple of months my grandad and I go for dinner and split the bill, but he often leaves a tiny tip - or none - even when the food and service are good. I end up leaving more so the staff get a reasonable tip. I've mentioned it, as I know he can afford it, but he laughs it…

Supporting my partner with her M.E health decline
Hi all, My partner and I have been together for 25 years. I have seen a steady decline in her general health in the last 3 or 4 years but it's only in the last 6 months that she's got to the point where she's hardly going out and not doing much. We have 2 big dogs that need at least one good walk a day and it's one of her…

Life admin, going paper free...ish?
I'm looking to have a purge of the paperwork that we've accumulated in our home office, despite going "paper free" where offered. We had a good clear out a few years ago, scanning what might be useful...but it's gradually creeping back. How paper-free have you gone? Are you ruthless and keep barely anything*, scanning…

MSE News: School uniform grants: Check if you can get up to £200 in support from your council
If you're on certain benefits, such as Universal Credit, check if you can get up to £200 to put toward the cost of your child's school uniform in the form of a non-repayable grant. We've council-by-council help for those in England, where around 15% of authorities offer support, plus info on more widely available schemes…

Hi my daughters ex husband has kept my granddaughter at his and is refusing to let my daughter see her without supervision as he says she is upset because the last time they were together with my daughters partner there was an argument about getting ready for school which involved the partner shouting at my granddaughter,…

Is this fraud?
Sorry if this is wrong place to post. My daughter had a head-on collision in July 2016 and was encouraged by the hospital to take the person to court on a no win, no fee case. She is due to get her money soon. Her father is pressuring her into opening a fake business account to out her money in and he says she can then…

Divorced last year, remarrying this year
Hi, I was married some years ago in a civil ceremony in the UK. Moved to husbands land of birth, but was told because HE was Catholic and I wasn't, the civil marriage wasn't recognised there, he WASN'T married but I was, and we'd need to marry again, in a Catholic church. We did so, so two marriages, same person within 2…

LPA
I set up LPAs (both Property and Financial and Health and Welfare) over ten years ago. I think I have read that the procedure differs now and that it is much easier than it was to get banks to accept that an attorney is acting. Is this so, and if it is would it be worthwhile to set up a new LPA?

Parents?!
Hi, I'm curious to know how other families are together. I have 2 elderly parents both just turned 80. I’m 57 and have 2 sons that both still live at home and a grandson of 11. My children and I all work full time, although I only work 3 long days a week. My mother in particular seems to think I should spend a lot of my…

Money Moral Dilemma: Should I tell my brother and his wife they don't need to buy me presents?
This week's MoneySaver who wants advice asks… I'm a childfree aunt to three young nephews and I love to buy them presents, take them on days out and give them pocket money. Their parents don't have much money to spare, but they get me birthday and Christmas presents 'from the kids' to say thanks. While I appreciate the…

More advice needed (sorry) and keep getting bullied by more and more people in the Ex-Wife family
I am really struggling here I am now getting watched on my indoor ring camara, and having certain and private conversations shared around which I do not know why she cares who I talk to or what I do or where I go, because I was begging her to reconsider her wanting to divorce for 5/6 weeks and she did not care about…

Mum (early 60s) doesn't seem to be enjoying life particularly much. No partner or grandchildren
My mum is 61 and unfortunately isn't enjoying her life very much. I know this because she has discussed it with me. I suspect that a couple of key factors contributing to the situation are that she has no romantic partner and no grandchildren. The fact that she has no grandchildren is unfortunately my fault. I am her only…

Just married
So we just got married, thought 30 years a reasonable trial beforehand, so need to notify. But who? I thought HMRC but there isn't an obvious requirement unless you are claiming Marriage allowance, do I need to notify HMRC anyway? I'm not changing my name. So pension provider, house, travel and car insurance, anyone else?…

Marriage is fizzling out :(
Hi folks, I've summoned up the strength to post here - I've been close to tears all day, and at various points over recent weeks TBH - as I think my marriage is fizzling out and it hurts. We've been together 25 years (married for 15), have two amazing kids, and I've realised that over the past few years we've grown apart…

Neighbours kids footballs in my garden
I'm looking for some advice on how to handle an ongoing issue with my neighbours. I bought and moved into my house last year. When I first moved in, the fence between our gardens was only about waist height. My neighbours' children were constantly kicking and throwing balls into my garden, and instead of asking permission,…

15 / 30 hours free childcare calculation
Hello, I was surprised to learn how my child's nursery calculates the 15/30 hours free childcare. I'm interested if this is standard or if its better/worse than how other nurseries handle it. The nursery is open 52 weeks per year, Monday to Friday, from 7:30am until 7pm. Closed on bank holidays. They have different prices…
