Banking Hubs.
Hello. I've just seen in the local rag that a banking hub is earmarked near by, what are your opinions on them? Good idea or just a gimmick before cash disappears in the near future.

Mystery deposit
I've received a sum of money in my bank account from CB customer services but don't know why. Has anyone else had similar ? My fraud team couldn't help but as advised not to repay directly but through them. If it's a scam I can't see how.

Hating the look of the Nationwide Banking app
Just got the new app. Hate it!! The text is soo big . Just checked - you can read it from more than 2 metres away!!. No more checking the account in a public place. So big that I have to scroll through 2 screens to check my accounts. Worse of all the actual page the balance and the date are half the size of the transaction…

Santander Edge saving account interest
I opened my Santander Edge Saver on 24/3/24 and put £4k in immediately. I expected my first month interest today but so far there has been nothing. However, I paid the money in directly to the saving account from non-Santander accounts rather than move it into my Edge current account first and then move it into the saver.…

New Santander login
Has anyone else wasted 45 min trying to use the new login? I still can't get a photo good enough for the app.

Danske £200 Switch Offer 18/4/24 (NI Only)
Good morning, This is probably quite a niche one as you need to live in Northern Ireland to open an account with Danske as a new customer but Danske currently have a £200 switching offer for those who don't currently have a Danske current account. See: https://danskebank.co.uk/personal/products/current-accounts/switch-200…

New Santander App
I see they are putting out a new app. On the video it says one can freeze ones account. That sounds useful. But can one unfreeze the account from the app as well anyone know?

Being Paid
Hi, I've been in my current job for 2 months, I didn't get paid on payday for my first pay as they had my bank details wrong, they corrected this and sorted it straight away. However I also haven't been paid today on my second payday either but they have the correct details now. I was just wondering if it will take a few…

Refusal to open a savings account under a Power of Attorney
I am really cross as, for the second time I have found that I cannot access a good fixed rate account for my friend for whom I hold PoA because of the PoA! This is “Saga Savings Platform Powered by Flagstone”, which has replaced Saga Savings, which DID allow me to save with them under the PoA. They could only say that they…

Overdrafts: what issues should MSE be raising with the industry?
Hi all Here at MSE we sometimes have the opportunity to talk to industry bodies, and one of our colleagues will be talking to representatives of lenders very soon. We've already scoured the forum to spot recurring issues that would be worth highlighting, but if you've had a recent experience of dealing with a bank with…

Best Savings account for self employed, seasonal worker
Dear All I am a self employed tourist guide. Most of my income is made between April and end of October. I would like to maximise my tax kitty as it is sitting in my account for over a year before needing to be given to the HMRC. I am also happy to change my current account from Virgin Money. This is daunting for me as I…

NATIONWIDE CANNOT FIND MY €2000
Having researched this at length, I now realise that Nationwide seem to have a historical problem with incoming SEPA receipts. They are telling me they cannot trace nearly €2000 that was transferred from Britline in France to my Nationwide account. They insist that without an 'MT103' they will not find it. The French bank…

Coventry BS bids for the Co-op Bank
One of Britain's biggest building societies has tabled a surprise takeover bid for the Co-operative Bank – a deal that would effectively remutualise one of the country's most recognisable high street lenders. https://news.sky.com/story/coventry-building-society-tables-bid-to-remutualise-co-operative-bank-13024020

Bank account access/ contactless
I had my non-contactless card changed over a year ago to contactless because of this and health problems I have not accessed my accounts for over a year. I was told at the time that the only card available was contactless, then I read in the mail that they could actually switch off this ability, rendering it…

HSBC Advance £125 bonus + £80
Firstly, an update on the HSBC bank bribe. I opened the Advance account on 1st November, it took a couple of days, but my application was approved quite quickly, then it was just waiting for the account set up and card to arrive in the post (which it now has). These are the steps to qualify for the £125 bonus, in case…

Co Op Switch offer (seen 15th January 2024)
I saw that the Co Op Bank switching/referral offer had disappeared from the main MSE article a few weeks go but I've just been on their site and it seems like it's back, £100 for switching plus £50 for using the attached saving account. Just had a brief look so far (I currently have another switch in motion) but here's…

Has Nationwide stopped producing statements for some accounts?
This probably should be in Savings & Investments rather than Budgeting & Bank Accounts but as it affects a number of Nationwide accounts I've posted it here. Has anyone else not had any statements generated for some of their accounts over the past two months? I have 4 Nationwide accounts, one current, three savings…

Council Tax Maths
Council Tax bills are coming out this week. The councils are playing a game. They claim it's only going up 5% if you just read the headline figure and put it away you are likely being fobbed off. I have no idea how they get to this number because £2158.44 to £2,335.06 is 8.18%, not 5%. Check yours…

Budget App
Hello All, any recommendations for a free Budget App that I can use on my phone? I currently use a spreadsheet and aware of the MSE spreadsheet. I have seen several posts here about budget apps, but they are a few years old. An app that can be reconciled with my bank would be a bonus, but not essential. I have checked with…
