NATIONWIDE CANNOT FIND MY €2000

Options
Having researched this at length,  I now realise that Nationwide seem to have a historical problem with incoming SEPA receipts.   They are telling me they cannot trace  nearly €2000 that was transferred from Britline in France to my Nationwide account.  They insist that without an 'MT103' they will not find it.  The French bank say that SEPA payments do not use MT103 therefore they don't have this document.  The sending bank have tried to do a recall but as Nationwide say they don't have it, that has hit a brick wall.  MT103 are used with SWIFT transfers not SEPA.  After three months,  countless phone calls, several letters and nearly 80 emails, Nationwide have closed down discussions with  me and will not uphold my complaint.

Your case with the FOS will likely fail as the responsibility to trace a payment is with the remitting bank.

You need to trace the payment via the remitting bank, not the receiving bank.  They will have a way of tracing SEPA payments that they sent.
  • Thanks, Hobgoblin but sadly the sending bank have failed to supply the required information and say they have no further details they can give us.  They are being totally unhelpful.  I shall have to try the French equivalent of FOS.

SEPA messages can be sent by MT103 so the two are not mutually exclusive.

To add a further complexity. HSBC are Nationwide's intermediary bank for foreign transfers.
