Apple watch and fall detection
Before we start - yes, latest OS versions. Now aside from "it hasn't been set up", is there a reason as to why once set up & the person falls wearing an apple watch, it DOESN'T alert someone notified? This was one of the reasons we got our mother an AW. Found out yesterday that she took a tumble last week. As per, she…

Can I use a mobile with my land line number?
OK so is there a way to do this? We were recently sent a VOIP thing to replace our current wifi hub and plug our land line in to. We haven't managed to do it and the provider (ee) won't help unless we agree to pay a call out fee. Yes I know this is something that your average 12 year old could do in under 5 minutes but us…

Does Open Banking work for business accounts too?
Following on from my earlier question about checks before sending large payments, I was wondering about something slightly related. When paying businesses (like limited companies), is Open Banking ever used to confirm account details, or does it mainly apply to personal accounts? I’m thinking more from a practical point of…

Microsoft OneDrive is baffling me...and driving me nuts
I needed an option to back up my photos and files - there's quite a lot - and after looking on the MSE website, decided Microsoft 365 with OneDrive was the best option. I'm regretting it. Yesterday, when I wasn't signed into OneDrive, it wouldn't let me access my files that I THOUGHT were saved on my computer. Turns out…

Thoughts on Humax Aura PVR?
We have an older Humax Freeview recorder that is starting to be unreliable. The Humax Aura is a possible replacement, but I see several user reviews on both John Lewis and Amazon that say it is best avoided. As usual there are the "best thing since sliced bread" vs "don't touch one with a barge pole" reviews, anyone got…

BT Synergy phone won't charge batteries
I've got two setups, each with quad set of BT Synergy 6500 cordless phones, they'll all be well over 10 years old now. During the past 2 years, they've been dying, one by one, so I only have 3 working ones left now. Typically, a handset will show 'low batt' warning after only a few minutes' use, so I install new batteries…

Anyone used an AI package to decipher handwritten text?
I've come across Transkribus, and will be giving it a shot. Curious as to whether anyone has used any of these, and how well it worked? Ta.

New Business Start Up - Questions
Hi there 👋 Been re-directed here from the small business forum as some of the questions I had were more technology related. Hoping someone more tech-savvy might have some advice. I'm setting up a consultancy business (sole trader) as a bit of a side hustle alongside my part-time job. Much of the work will be creating…

Ninja SP101UK air fryer dead after 5 years
As per the title, the lights went out on our SP101UK air fryer last night a few minutes into a 30 minute bake last night. Now it won't power on. We tried replacing the 13A fuse, and have confirmed that the socket is good. Also tried leaving it unplugged for half an hour to see if it resets, but it didn't help. I was…

YAHOO MAIL
Is it only me, or is Yahoo mail awful? I have a sky.com email address which uses Yahoo to fetch and send email to my laptop. When trying to compose an email there is a lag of one or two seconds between typing a character and it actually appearing onscreen. I've uninstalled and reinstalled the program and cleared the cache…

What are good online shops to buy computer parts.
Ebuyer.com used to be reasonably good but last year it went out of business. "A winding up petition was issued against the company by their landlord on 1 August 2025 and the company was acquired out of administration by Frasers Group on 13 August 2025." What remaining UK suppliers are there excluding places like ebay or…

Very low upload speed from one device only.
I've just run Speedtest by Ookla from my laptop, phone and tablet. On the phone and tablet upload speed is roughly 20Mbps. From the laptop it's showing about 0.3 Mbps. Download speed is consistent across all devices. Wireless connection to a BT Hub in all cases. Laptop is positioned about 1 foot from the Hub. Any thoughts…

Temporary router - help!
Does the following make any sense? Someone drove into the local BT junction box, and our broadband is down for the next week until Openreach can get round to fixing it. I have a mifi router I bought, and I'm using that for internet connectivity for the time being. The trouble is that all the smart gadgets in the house are…
