Taxi to airport
Her Maj and I are flying off to sunny climes in the spring 2026 to celebrate our retirement. Flights and hotel booked, but for the UK transfer I'm thinking of booking a taxi to get us to airport. I did consider meet and greet among other options, but I didn't want the faff and taxi works out a bit cheaper - plus we travel…

Paying for Wake and Funeral
We are dealing with my recently deceased uncles estate etc.. He has a substantial bank balance and the bank have already said that they release funds for the funeral/wake/ flowers. My question is how do I go about paying for the above? Do we need to pay first and claim it back or are the bank just billed direct? Sorry if…

Looking To The Future With Hope
After reading @Onebrokelady thread I feel so inspired and in awe of how someone can be so positive when they’ve faced such adversity that I’ve decided to start a diary. Now, I can’t promise that I’ll keep this up, as I do have a tendency to start things full of enthusiasm and then I stumble and give up, but we shall see.…

Should I sell my gold
Hello I have a solid gold necklace that was valued at 8k. Having looked at the price of gold today it's much higher. I rang the place who have now increased the value to £9,200 and will buy it from me today at that. Rang a few others to check and it's the same offer. I have kept the necklace as in my head it's been money…

It's no brainer to consolidate my pensions into Fidelity or other cheaper SIPP?
Hi fellow members, I’ve more or less made up my mind to retire once both of my sons have finished university. My pension + ISA is about 1.7m. I have several pension accounts from previous employments. My current workplace pension with Fidelity is very flexible, and the only charges at the moment are the fund management…

Private prescriptions
Does anyone have any experience getting a private prescritption dispensed, either at a local pharamacy (e.g. Tesco) or online please? The online shops (a) don't seem to sell everything I need and (b) want to do their own prescribing. I dont need that, I've got a prescription. Converting the private script into an NHS one…

MSE and Virgin Media
I just signed up to Virgin Media using an offer from MSE - this gave me a great rate and I'm really pleased. I'm less pleased by the fact that although the MSE advert for MSE states that This equivalent monthly cost adds in... ‐ The current £19.99/mth price ‐ A price rise to £23.99/mth on 1 Apr 2027 It does not show that…

Management company hikes maintenance charge by 40+% without warning
Just had to listen to a tale of woe from my neighbour who owns a single small buy-to-let flat. The rent from it forms a mainstay of her retirement income. It seems after many years the freeholder of this block of flats sold up some eighteen months ago. The new owner's contracted management company, after putting up the…

Risky to overpay child support?
CMS calculator comes out at £490 per month, although that is abnormally low because much of my income is from property lettings and I had two major renovations to pay for in the last reported tax year which have dragged this down as a one-off. My ex is very stressed and pleading poverty after paying me my share of the…
