Insurance backed guarantee vs certass guarantee

Hello all,

Looking to get quotes locally for an new external door and full length fixed pane window for my porch. one of them offers 10 year insurance backed guarantee and other one offers 2 year certass guarantee. The 10 year person does only windows and doors. The other person is a certified glazing person who does building work as well. both of them have good reviews and references and have been in the trade fore more than 10 years.

still waiting for quotes.

will the guarantee make a huge difference in the long term?

    According to Google:

A Certass guarantee is a workmanship warranty provided by a Certass-registered installer for home improvements like windows, doors, and insulation. It ensures your installation meets UK Building Regulations. Certass requires all registered contractors to also provide an Insurance-Backed Guarantee (IBG), which protects your investment if the installer stops trading.

Certass sounds like Fensa, it just says that the work meets building regulations.

Certass is an alternative self certifying scheme to Fensa - Both serve the same purpose, and there is little to choose between the two. Fensa is more widely known, but it doesn't really make much difference to which one you use.

I've had both Fensa and Certass registered installers fit windows/doors here. Both did good jobs, and to be honest, I doubt very much that I will need to call upon the guarantees. It is the Building Control certificates that are more important to me.

    Thanks for the clarity.

one installer is offering 10 year insurance backed guarantee. and other is offering only 2 year insurance backed guarantee. For a door which costing more than £1600 i see there is a difference about 100 - 200 extra for 10 year guaratee.

Is it worth to pay the extra for a 10 year IBG? From what i heard its just the frame which will be 10 year and glass and others are not guaranteed for 10 years.

Only you can decide whether it's worth the extra. And you're right, not everything will be covered for 10 years, the policy should explain it. From memory something like frame 10 years, hardware 5 years, sealed units 1 year…
