Why do some ebay sellers refuse to leave feedback till the buyer has left feedback on them? Doesn't this make a mockery of the feedback system as a buyer could pay promptly therby earning positive feedback but the seller may send the item late, not as described etc then if the buyer leaves neutral or negative feedback justifibly, the seller then leaves negative feedback on them. What do you think?

As a newbie to ebay i was upset about this myself.
I have bought a few things recently, paid straight away, left feedback for them and still i have no feedback from them. This really is not fair as the only way to build ratings up is by the feedback.0 -
unfortunatly the other side is once the seller see's feedback they can assume you are happy and eveythings fine.
i do the same im afraid. that way i know the customer is happy however if a customer emailed me and said they were happy then i would leave feedback as well0 -
I think it's best to wait to leave feedback until the buyer recieves the item then you know it's got there and the deal is done. Otherwise you could leave feedback and then have problems later.0

as a seller i always wait for FB first and then return the FB.
as a buyer i will leave FB if im very happy with the item. if im a bit iffy about the item, i may leave no FB at all. depends on how im feeling.
my 4 negs, have been caused by moronic buyers, who cannot read a description properly.Get some gorm.0 -

I think its fine for the seller to leave feedback after the buyer as long as they are honest. The problem is that some sellers are not honest and will use feedback to bribe newer buyers into leaving positive feedback even if the item was not acceptable.
I had this happen to me a few times. I had a problem with an item not arriving at all and so i contact the seller many times, they didnt reply at all. I then started a paypal dispute which again they didnt take any notice of so i made a claim. I got the money for the item back but they kept the shipping cost which i found totally unfair since why should i pay shipping for an item i never recieved.
I waited to see what the seller would leave in way of feedback but got tired of waiting so left them a negative which i feel they totally deserved. I then within a couple of days recieved a negative feedback myself and for what? Paying promptly, contacting them when i had a problem. Being totally reasonable. Its stange that they couldnt be bothered to reply to any of my emails but they could leave me a negative within a few days.
Now the only option ebay leaves you with is to both mutally withdraw feedback. As i dont buy on ebay too often the negative was affecting me more than them so i agreed to withdraw begrudgingly. Why is it fair that they got to hold me to ransom why i did nothing wrong?
Ebay should sort it out, they should keep the feedback left and recieved hidden until both parties have left it and then reveal it. That why most people would leave honest feedback and no-one would be held to ransom. Also ebay should be able to change or remove the feedback given to a person if it is not fair.Offical MSE Fantasy League Member:beer:0 -
I agree that the feedback system is open to abuse.
As a seller, I used to leave positive feedback on receipt of payment, but after reading some of the horror stories on here about customers from Hell, I now wait for the buyer to let me know that they're satisfied (usually through feedback).
I once got a neutral which I felt was undeserved, but the newish buyer had done nothing really wrong so I wouldn't leave bad feedback. I didn't want to leave positive either because my overall experience with that transaction wasn't positive, so I left no feedback.
I recently had a customer who bought an item from me which turned out to be faulty. He politely explained the problem and asked for a refund which I duly sent after he returned the item, it was all very amicable and we both left each other positive feedback. I left mine first on that occasion, having had comfirmation via e-mail that he considered the matter resolved satisfactorily. I am quite willing to leave positive feedback for customers who've had legitimate complaints and handled them properly, but I get annoyed with the sellers who neg anyone who dares claim a refund.0
