    Now the only option ebay leaves you with is to both mutally withdraw feedback. As i dont buy on ebay too often the negative was affecting me more than them so i agreed to withdraw begrudgingly. Why is it fair that they got to hold me to ransom why i did nothing wrong?
    I thought you could reply to feedback, so you could keep the neg, let them have their neg, and respond to your neg explaining the issues.

    Sellers feedback WILL affect sales.

    Buyers feedback does NOT stop them bidding (unless in minus territory)

    Anyone who sells seriously will have a buying and selling account. So if as a buyer you hit a poor seller any reatliatory neg will not affect selling performance.

    Gosh its been over a month for this one to crop up again!!
  • As a seller (and i only sell the odd bit,dont sell any of business items on ebay) I always include a little note in the parcel saying that if they are unhappy with their purchase then could they please email me so that I may rectify this I also state that I wont leave feedback until they do as how do you know your item has arrived safe until they leave feedback.

    And as a buyer I wont leave feedback until I have received item (obviously) but dont wait for them to leave feedback.

    I bought something nearly a fortnight ago and had to email the seller a few days ago politely saying I hadnt received it yet to which I had a polite quick response saying they had accidently sent it to wrong address and that they had had it sent back and would repost it to me and they were sorry. I will still leave positive feedback as mistakes happen, dont they. Oh and they have already left positive feedback for me, so I suppose everyone does things different.

    Here's an excellent post from the ebay Q&A board, which gives good examples.

    "they now have your money so what is preventing them from leaving you a positive feedback"

    Because feedback has little to do with money - payment isn't optional - it's a requirement...

    Firstly many (not some) sellers use software provided by eBay to leave automatic feedback - it's for pure efficiency.

    Also, as a good buyer, what you're not aware of is that we see a great many posts from sellers along the lines of:

    "The buyer has said that the item doesn't fit them and wants their money back..."
    "The buyer has returned the item, but they've damaged it"
    "The buyer has said the item was broken, but the one they've returned isn't the one that I sent..."

    For example, we've had threads recently about
    (1) a buyer who wanted to return a bracelet because "it broke after my Dad filed it trying to make it fit better";
    (2) about someone who sold a PS2, and when it was returned as faulty, got a box with two bricks in;
    (3) about a buyer who persistently claims that they never receive items,
    (4) about a buyer who paid after two weeks and who, two minutes after the seller left positive feedback, negged them for slow delivery;
    (5) about a buyer who returned a "non-working mobile phone - the problem being that he'd switched the original battery for a mismatching broken one;
    (6) and about someone who charged £6.00 P&P and got a negative from their buyer because the stamp cost was only £5.75.

    There's always the opportunity for unrealistic expectations, misunderstandings, poor communications and even scams - and sellers need to warn the community about such bad behaviour from buyers, just as the buyers need to warn against poor sellers...

    Also, remember that payment is an absolute requirement of any buyer - if they don't pay, then they're not actually a "buyer". Payment is, in fact, only the first step of a multi-stage process - feedback would be fairly meaningless at that point - it could only read

    "Paid quickly"... or "Paid"... or, err, that's it...

    Most of all, bear in mind that feedback is *voluntary* - you have no right for it to be left, first or second.

    And here's a long-running thread on feedback where the EBAY REP says that buyers should leave feedback first.

    http://forums.ebay.co.uk/thread.jspa?threadID=400096882&start=0

    Me... I ask buyers to let me know when their item has arrived, either by leaving feedback or by dropping me a line. Usually an email is too much effort for them.
    My TV is broken! :cry:
    Edit: refunded £515 for TV 1.5 years out of warranty - thank you Sale of Goods Act! :j

    Thanks for all your views.It's never cropped up for me but my OH who is a jinx by the way has it happening everytime.I think he feels bullied into leaving positive feedback in case the seller takes the hump and disses him.Obivously a thorny issue but I did like one reply suggesting feedback is hidden till both parties have left it, seems a fairer deal.

    Nobody would leave feedback then.

    On Amazon sellers never bothering leaving buyers feedback (unless of course its a neg).

    I always wait until the buyer leaves feedback for me before leaving mine. That way I know they are happy with the item and I can consider the transaction finished.
