I'd have thought Ebay would set up something whereby if a buyer/seller doesnt leave feedback within a certain amount of time then a positive should be automatically given for ratings especially when you've given the buyer/seller a positive feedback.Always looking for a bargain and to help0 -
I've sometimes not left feedback simply so as not to offend the seller with a neutral or neg - for example when I received a very rare DVD at a bargain sniped bid, but it took 4 weeks to arrive, in a ripped jiffy bag.
Also with a few buyers who have cancelled sales for one reason or another - neutrals are normally order of the day, but 9 times out of 10 I get a sob story and rather than risk a neg or neutral in return I simply leave it.
I don't tend to leave feedback on the odd occasion I have had to refund either - unless the buyer leaves a glowing pos!<--- Nothing to see here - move along --->0 -
i have read a few listings that say something like... due to a recent lot of unwanted negs/neutrals (from the same person using diff accounts) i will no longer lleave feedback unless SPECIFICALLY asked by the buyer/seller...
me.. if im buyer and i get it all good... then i give good FB...
if im seller. i ALWAYS wait for buyer to leave FB before i do...
always find it strange when sellers leave feedback as soon as i pay/buy an item... what if it arrives dodgy, and i leave FB that i think is fair (neg/neatral) what would the seller say "i left good FB for u, why havent u for me" probably..0 -

When I sell, I leave feedback for the buyer as soon as they've paid. Unless they're a 0 feedback bidder, or seem like they could be a troublemaker. Then I will leave it after they have confirmed reciept or left feedback for me.
It it arrives dodgy I hope that they buyer will have paid attention to my dispatch email that says to 'please contact me with any problems as I'll try and sort them out'.
If not, oh well. I'll leave a follow-up. I don't do petty retaliatory feedback.
In response to the original question, yes, I think both sellers and buyers should leave feedback.
stevew8975, I'd say that transaction deserved a neutral.
But I do understand that it is sometimes easier just to leave no feedback at all to prevent potential ranting/retaliation/pressure to withdraw feedback from the seller.0 -
Feedback is optional.
As a buyer I usually leave feedback when the item arrives and I'm happy with it.
As a seller I usually leave feedback after the buyer leaves their feedback saying they are happy with it. Or, if they never contacted or paid me, they might get feedback faster ;-)"Money is truthful. If a person speaks of their honour, make sure they pay in cash."0 -
Its seems to me that most people go by feedback ratings (correct me if you think im wrong) so i think it shouldnt be optional.
Also its been said that most sellers dont leave feedback until they get feedback from the buyer (again correct me if you think im wrong) so it seems unfair when a seller doesnt give feedback when positive feedback is given.
Its only happened once so im not bothered just interested.
One other question if i may.
Does feedback after 1 year not count towards feedback?

When I was using ebay a lot to sell, I'm afraid I used to do bulk feedback once a week or so only to those that had left feedback.
The downside with this system is I have noticed some non payers will leave feedback in the hope you do this, can be infuriating when you have left a non payer a positive in error!!0 -

Feedback always counts, it does not disappear or fall from the score after a year.
Neutrals though actually don't show on the first page after a year though as the summary only goes up to 12 months. However the neutral feedback comment will still be there if another user looks for it, and it doesn't affect your rating at all anyway.

I had the most snotty email from a buyer this week about feedback. I send a courtesy email 3 weeks after purchase asking if everything is ok with the item and reminding them of who to contact if they have a problem and finally reminding them of the feedback system.
Got a response which basically said that I and so many other eBayers were wrong about feedback and a seller should always leave feedback for the buyer once they had received prompt payment. It went on to say they would not leave feedback until I had left if for him even though he said in his email that he was happy with the purchase.
I usually would have replied but it simply wasnt worth the effort. Im sure he will struggle to get his feedback up with this attitude as I will never leave feedback for a buyer until they have done so and know many sellers who think the same (those that do will one day regret it). A buyers part in the transaction consists of so much more than simply paying promptly but some dont see it that way.0
