    I disagree lol:D

A buyers role is to ask questions, bid and pay promptly.

That is the end of the buyers role in the transaction. Once that has been completed, the Seller should give feedback based on the timely payment.

The Seller still has a role to play, ensuring the item is packaged properly and posted in the time stated (how many times do you see 1-2 days and wait a week??)

Any issues arising later are what the follow up system is for.

Sellers just get into a tit-for-tat situation, I won't leave for you unless you leave for me first

It get's my goat no end when I pay within seconds of an auction end, and receive no feedback at all because the seller can't be bothered (normally the ones with about 10 zillion positives and have been going for years).

Sellers shouldn't have the belief that they are doing the buyer a favour by selling to them.

I don't think people are ever going to agree on who should leave feedback first.

Personally I don't see the transaction as completed until the buyer has received the item and is happy with their purchase. There are so many things that could go wrong between a buyer paying and receiving the item. I much prefer to leave feedback that reflects the whole transaction.

  • im liking this new type of feedback if your a buyer....

    feedback 2.0...

if you a buyer you leave a neg, neu or pos feedback and comment as usual
but now they have a system with stars where u can rate on a 1-5 scale about "how fast did the seller send item", "how good was the communications£ etc etc..

as a seller im 4.5 out of 5 on my total of 14 selling items...

and i have just left one with all 5's apart from sellers communications (i had to ask for an invoice and it was for the wrong amount twice)

Nope...hating the new feedback system as a seller.

Before feedback 2.0, feedback was transaparent. Now a buyer can leave a positive feedback and comment but mark the seller as 1 out of 5 in all of the star categories if they wanted to knowing the seller does not see what star ratings a buyer has left for them.

I sell heavy A/V cables and therefore my postage is quite high as they are pricey to post. I have 5 out of 5 stars in all categories apart from the 'postage and packaging charges' one which is around 4.5 out of 5 so obviously some buyers are not 100% happy with my P&P prices (this is despite me saying in all listings that the items are heavy and I don't overinflate postage). I cant lower postage the price any more without actually charging less than Royal Mail charge me to post the items but I dont know who was less than happy with my P&P to tell them this.

The alternative? Offer Freepost and increase my item cost...this will simply make me look expensive and buyers will buy elsewhere.

Some sellers on the forums are suggesting the percentage of buyers leaving feedback has dropped possibly because they see it as too time consuming- Selecting positive or negative, leaving a comment and awarding stars in 4 categories (albeit the stars are optional but many might not see it that way).

And what about if the cheque bounces, or a chargeback is initiated? Or if the buyer did not read the listing properly and thought they were getting something different?

Postal services have not yet invented a teleporter as far as I am aware - with the demise of Post Offices a lot of sellers will only travel to post every other day. allow 2-3 days for standard parcels or 2nd class, you are then getting on for a week.
Any issues arising later are what the follow up system is for.

No - that's what email and messaging services are to be used for. I do not take kindly to feedback stating - "where is my item?"

I do not know where this idea comes from - in the eyes of the law the transaction is not complete until the buyer pays in full AND takes possession. How can a Seller give an honest feedback when the transaction is not complete?

Many sellers, myself included have an automated feedback system set up - as soon as a positive is left for us, the system will reply within a few minutes.

Buyers who demand feedback upon immediate payment are, in my opinion, scammers in the waiting, and should be treated with utmost suspicion. As a buyer I do not expect FB until I have left it. If anything goes wrong with the transaction, I ALWAYS give the seller a chance to rectify.

Would eBay be a better place without Feedback comments? A simple 1-5 rating would be more than adequate.

And this site would be so much better if people did not keep dragging up the FB question, to which I always feel compelled to reply.

    1. If the cheque bounces, the payment isn't complete!!

    2. Chargebacks can be made up to 6 Months after the Auction (as is my understanding), is that when you post your feedback???

    3. I'm sure ALL traders have, at some point, experienced customers coming back in and complaining something isn't what they thought it was. Doesn't necessarily mean negs all round, deal with it on an individual basis. Don't assume all your buyers are out to rip you off. I'm sure you know of many items poorly described (hiding facts about condition/ history etc)

Then don't state in the description 1-2 days delivery, then post it 5 days later!!!
No - that's what email and messaging services are to be used for. I do not take kindly to feedback stating - "where is my item?"

Then communicate! if you state 1-2 days delivery, email him after 1 day to tell the buyer you have posted the item and it should be there tomorrow, if it doesn't arrive, get straight back to me.

People probably neg you as you state a delivery period, which has elapsed. The buyer, having heard no news from you takes the next step. Some people just don't like confrontation, even through email.

Ebay and Law don't really go hand in hand, like all the Legally binding contract nonsense banded about on there.
The transaction, once payment has been made IS complete from the buyers point of view. All he has to do is wait for the postman, check it is the same as the description, packaged well, arrived in the time stated and leave positive feedback if he feels the seller deserves it. The Seller is not waiting for the BUYER to send/contact/pay etc anymore. You had your money, made your profit, tell the World he is a quick payer!!

Buyers who demand feedback upon immediate payment are, in my opinion, scammers in the waiting, and should be treated with utmost suspicion.

If we all felt that way, there wouldn't be ANY feedback left!! this is what I meant by the Tit-for-Tat.
If you won't place trust in anyone bidding on your auction. Stop auctioning stuff!!

As a buyer I do not expect FB until I have left it. If anything goes wrong with the transaction, I ALWAYS give the seller a chance to rectify.

I totally agree with you about giving sellers a chance to rectify, I do not condone leaving Negative Feedback in the first instance.

Would eBay be a better place without Feedback comments? A simple 1-5 rating would be more than adequate.

I would rather see more space available to comment. Some negs are unjustified, the receiver should have a chance to explain it in more than about 10 words!
And this site would be so much better if people did not keep dragging up the FB question, to which I always feel compelled to reply.

You can see this is a topic that polarises opinion! Normally we're a touch more chilled out... ;)

Trouble is... there are fantastically righteous arguments for both sides of the argument, and a few people (myself included) can get sucked in to defend their point of view, and denounce the opposition.

As per my sig... I enjoy stabbing myself in the eye with a biro more than I enjoy slinging arguments around in this kind of thread... so I don't tend to bother.

The exceptionally bored may enjoy reading this thread, however:

    http://forums.ebay.co.uk/thread.jspa?threadID=400096882&start=0

You'll note on page 1 an ebay employee puts himself in the 'buyers first' camp.

    :D

    Carry on! *exits thread*

Back from a pint or 3 now (:hic:) and not really concerned about repsonding to anything above except that up to 125 characters can be left as a single feedback comment....
    http://feedback.ebay.com.hk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?LeaveFeedbackShow&useridfrom=XXXXXXX&useridto=YYYYYYY&item=ZZZZZZZZ

    X = Your eBay ID
    Y = Their ebay ID
    Z = Item number

You'll be asked to log into eBay's Hong Kong site, it's as perfectly safe as ebay.co.uk. You don't need to be able to read Chinese script as everything on the Leave Feedback page is positioned as it is on the corresponding eBay.com or eBay.co.uk (etc.) page.

It's also worth noting that a growing number of PowerSellers are boycotting Feedback 2.0 by not leaving any feedback at all...

That's great up to the point when you get reported for leaving feedback through the HK site... and it's removed! ;)
