Ebay & people "requesting" feedback

Hi
I know this subject comes up regularly, but I've just had a buyer who's emailed me to ask "where's my positive feedback".
Now there hasn't been a problem with the transaction, the buyer paid promptly, I sent the item, he got it. Easy.
However, as I sell quite a lot, I complete feedback once or twice a week, and after the buyer has left there's, so I know they have received it OK (Yes I know this is always controversial, who leaves feedback first?). Anyway the item was bought 3 weeks ago and the buyer only left feedback last night, and then immediately sent the email. I might add he has had 4 negatives out of the last 20, mainly down to content of emails.
I have had emails very occasionally asking "could you complete feedback" if I haven't done it straight away, but not specifically for positive feedback. I have never asked for feedback, it's optional, so if somebody doesn't want to leave any I don't have a problem, and I complete feedback for everybody who leaves it, but this time...........

Asking for feedback is asking for trouble. I agree with your stance on leaving feedback once you know they're happy (either by them leaving feedback, or personally I'll accept an email saying 'I'm happy') but you'll find a minority disagree with you. (Cue SC...)
I have to say such an abrupt (borderline rude) request for feedback would taint my experience with that buyer. I couldn't in all honestly leave a glowing positive after that... so I would probably not bother. My TV is broken!

I would leave them positive feedback, something along the lines of "Here's the positive feedback you demanded, hope you're happy now' :rotfl:"As if by magic... the shopkeeper appeared."0

I had a buyer a few weeks ago email me to ask why I hadn't left positive feedback  I put it down to the fact that she was new and wasn't familiar with eBay. I do find it annoying though. I would never email a buyer/seller requesting feedback.-->♥<-- Sugar Coated Owl -->♥<--

I do but usually along the lines of, thanks for great transaction, have left you positive feedback. So not directly asking for feedback but jogging their memory.0

Why do you feel the need to jog their memory? They will leave it if and when they want to.-->♥<-- Sugar Coated Owl -->♥<--

I bought an item about a month ago, paid immediately, and left positive feedback for the seller as soon as I'd received the item and checked that it was OK. I still haven't received positive feedback in return. They're a power seller so I'm assuming that they're busy and have simply forgotten, and I'll be emailing a gentle reminder tonight.
My feedback is my reputation on eBay, and it's important to make sure it accurately reflects my performance. Even if it's only 1 positive mark, every bit helps.0 -

reminding sellers for feedback may actually hack them off, and then you might not get any at all..
feedback is not compulsory, and there is 90 days or so to leave it...
I find that big sellers tend to do a chunk of feedbacks together every few weeks or so...0 -
People seem to forget that feedback is in fact voluntary.-->♥<-- Sugar Coated Owl -->♥<--

I think feedback is important as gives an indication of what sort of buyer/seller you are dealing with.
Reminding people to leave feedback is ok providing you do it sensibly. If somebody does not leave feedback and a couple of weeks go by then a gentle reminder should be sufficient although I do agree that rudeness can have the opposite effect.
When I sell an item I always leave feedback when the buyer has paid, I know seom people wait until the buyer does it first but I can't be bothered with all the politics of it.Martin0 -

That's very honourable Martin, but it will only take one psycho buyer holding you to ransom over a potential negative to change your mind. (I'm guessing!)
Remember that feedback is meant to reflect the entire transaction, and the transaction isn't complete until the buyer's received the item.
My policy is - I send a polite email when I despatch, asking them nicely to confirm safe arrival, or if they prefer, leave feedback. Whichever they do, I then leave feedback for them. No politics - just good sense. My TV is broken!
