No Feedback - How Do You Know It Got There?

I know the whole Feedback thing has been discussed here before - and I agree with the view that it is not something to be asked for.

However, I have recently sold a few items on E-bay and have not received feedback for all of them.

It would be nice to know at least that the parcels have arrived - rather than one of my buyers sitting waiting and thinking I'm too lazy to go to the post office:D I do e-mail buyers when I receive payment and tell them when I will be posting their item so they have an idea of when to expect it. As my auctions usually finish at the weekend I do my main posting in my lunchbreak on the Monday.

Anyway, up until this last batch I have received feedback from all but one person - and they bought something very small for pence. But the batch I posted over a week ago still had 5 items with no feedback.

After much mulling it over I sent the buyers this e-mail this morning:

"Hi xxxxx, Just a quick courtesy e-mail to check that your parcel arrived safely and you are happy with the xxxxxxxxxxxxxx? Best regards, SPF"

What do you think? Could I phrase it better? I don't want to appear pushy - and I'm not asking for feedback - just wanted to check all was well.

Grateful for any views from your experience.

Thanks:D

if an item doesn't arrive you will hear soon enough!

If feedback is important to you then leave it first as it will almost certainly be reciprocated. All my feedback left first as a selelr is returned within 48 hours usually, and where I choose not to bother leaving feedback first (which happens more and more now as I'm really not bothered) my return feedback rate falls alarmingly.

As a buyer I have quite lot of feedback I still need to leave (some over a month old), but it isn't on my list of things to do. However where a seller left me feedback first I go out of my way to return feedback as soon as my item arrives safely.

  • I always include a note in my parcels asking the buyer to let me know it got there safely by leaving feedback. If they havent then I email to ask them if they were happy and could they leave feedback.
  • Your e-mail is good and I know you have nothing but good intentions but unfortunately as a seller you have to accept that you will still not get to hear back from a lot of those buyers. Some people are either too lazy, busy, inconsiderate, forgetful or whatever and will simply not respond. Others, like Soolin says take a long time to leave feedback or to send a "Just to let you know I received your items" note.

Like I say though, your e-mail is great, so send it by all means, just be aware that you will never hear back from everybody who buys from you, so don't worry yourself/stress too much about it if you don't..

I think you need to look at volumes as well.

If you are only selling a few bits and pieces or maybe buying a couple of bits a week feedback seems to be high on things to do. I used to sell on average 160 items a month so frankly didn't keep tags on who acknowledged items and who didn't Likewise when I have a buying spree I might buy 20-30 items in a couple of days so again actually dealing with feedback becomes just one more chore to be put off.

Add to that the fact that one of my ids (used to be two) sold identical items on a dutch BIN so getting an email from someone saying 'thanks xx arrived' meant I had to cross reference that against all my sales to find out who it was, further complicated by the fact that dutch bins all have the same item number.

    Soo

  • Some people just don't worry about leaving feedback as some do have the belief that a seller should leave feedback first but I always worry that if they are not happy with the item, they will neg me first, rather than contact me.
