Water meter hasn't been read for ages!
My water meter hasn't been read by United Utilities since 06/12/2022, although I do provide them with my own readings at the end of every month. Can I claim a penalty payment under the new rules that came into force this summer?

Severn Trent 2025/26 Increase
The average Severn Trent water bill is going up by 22% from 1st April, according to MSE. https://www.moneysavingexpert.com/news/2024/12/water-bills-rise-england-wales-2025 However, I just had my bill come through (for a non-metered, residential supply) and it's gone up by 30%. Do Ofwat set different increases for metered…

South West Water Bill Is Super High
I'm a single disabled person living in a one-bedroom 70s flat, been bed bound for nearly a year, and my last water bill was £2260, that's more than all the rest of my household bills combined. I've asked for a water meter to be installed and after waiting nearly a year for a home inspection I was told (again) one can't be…

Help! Water bill increased to £117
We bought our 30 year old house nearly 5 years ago, water company is southern water. 3 bed house, 2 adults and a toddler. there is an ancient water meter in a hole in the ground out front, it doesn’t appear to be visibly turning, and no obvious leak that I can spot. I can only view the last 2 years of water bills online,…

Smart Water Meter - not an option?
Hi, We've been looking at switching to a Water Meter - we've run the numbers and think we'll be better off, especially after a recent £20 a month increase, meaning our bill has more than doubled over the past couple of years after a prior £20 increase. Water is expensive...and we've had a hosepipe ban for months. By…

SEVERN TRENT'S "GRADUAL" WATER BILL INCREASES - 43% INCREASE!
Just had my latest ST water bill with a statement that they will be "gradually" increasing bills over the next 5 years. My billing rate was 181.95p / M3 on the last bill and now 260.80p / M3 - a 43% increase! When I asked for an explanation, here is the response" "Thank you for your feedback and for raising your concerns.…

£165pcm Thames water monthly bil…. For 2 bed house 🤯
Has anyone here had strange problems with their Thames Water smart meter? Since moving into our house last August, our usage data shows random huge spikes – e.g. nearly 4,000 litres in a single day (7 Aug) and 1,700 litres in a day (1 Sept). That’s impossible for us – just two adults in a terraced house with a tiny paved…

New Thames Water Smart Meter installed
Yesterday Thames Water replaced my "dumb" water meter with a new smart meter (with sim card) - does anyone know how long before the new meter will appear in my account? How frequently does it upload readings to my TW account - daily/monthly? I assume there are no apps currently which can be connected to the readings like…

How much water do you use
UU tells me that a 4 person household uses 450l a day. We used 288l so in my mind, we're doing well. We flush every time, we power wash the cars, we do laundry and dishwasher whenever we want, shower/bathe every day (sometimes twice ) All for £54 a month (up from £43) But what if that 450l is ancient data? What's to say…

Water bills and debt owed to Thames Water
Just wondering if anybody can help There are 5 of us in our house and we've been paying £56 a month - i have just had an email to say that our bills are increasing to £220 a month. Some of that is due to the increase in water prices - our ongoing liability appears to be £100 ish a month and we'll either have to reduce our…

4,500% increase in Thames Water bill via Direct Debit
Just spotted that Thames Water have been taking £905 a month from our joint account via DD for the past three months. Our regular payment for years has been £20 pcm for water, but looking at the last bill, it says we owe them more than £5,400! I rang TW, who said there must be a leak on the property. We haven't noticed…

Told I couldn't have a meter, may not be the case
I moved into my house some 7-8 years ago. As there was a change of ownership, the water company were going to install a meter. They came and changed something in the pavement and then I'm pretty sure I heard nothing for quite a few months. I remember phoning them to ask what was happening and they told me that they…

Compulsary Water Meter Installation
Type your messageI've had a man at my door today saying he is from South Staffordshire water and he has come to fit a water meter and that it is compulsory due to some government ruling in 2021. Is this correct? Can I be forced to have a water meter fitted? I'm not wasteful with water and I don't have a swimming pool to…

Can't Access Water Meter
I have just moved into a housing association house. Gas and electric meter readings have been taken and recorded. Water meter readings have not been recorded. This is because none of the four houses in the street have individual access to the water meters. They are all under one massive cast iron cover that you cannot lift…

Query about claiming a water bill credit
I've got a bit of a problem. My water bill is in my dad's name but as he did not have a bank account, it has always been paid from mine, as we lived together. He died three years ago and I have continued living in the house and paying the bills. I've now been informed that a large credit is in the account, and I want to…

Southern Water - Assessed Charge Bill - Don't think it's right but they won't help
Hi everyone, I've been going around in circles trying to figure out my water bill and whether it's actually correct or not. After a pointless webchat with an agent who wouldn't give me any straight answers and an online call with someone who didn't understand my questions I am trying here. We live in what is classed as a…

Surface Water Drainage Rebate - Thames Water
Living in the middle of a town, I've never thought that my surface water went anywhere other then the combined sewer that runs from my back garden under the house to the road. I'm having an extension built, which has exposed the rainwater drainage, and it seems mine and my neighbour's go into a shared soak away. Does this…

Severn Trent 2025 price rises
I have been informed that ST have increased prices for water at about 23% however I have also been told that for those with water meters the price hike is about 42% which I find totally unacceptable as this is supposed to be a fairer way of charging for water used and it seems that ST want to equalise meter billing with…

Thames Water unable to locate meter
I've lived in my flat for nearly 5 years and for some reason I assumed that I didn't have a water meter (yes, I know it was stupid of me not to check my bills properly). It was only when Thames Water wrote to say they were doubling my monthly direct debit, that I looked closer and saw that all the bills had a meter number…

Community Utilities charging excessive fees – is this allowed?
Hi everyone, I wondered if anyone has come across this situation before or has any advice. Our water was originally with LEEP Water, and we used to pay them directly. However, the company that owns our building has now put a third-party management company called Community Utilities in the middle. We can no longer pay LEEP…
