Water Bill - Sewerage volume calculation
I've just received my water bill (which has increased by 50%) and I can see that they have billed me for exactly the same volume of sewerage as they have water volume. E.g. in one quarter it was 33 cubic meters M3 for both.
I presume that they can only read the amount of consumption from a meter and not the amount of sewerage and wonder if they are just assuming that if we use 33 cubic meters then we must also have the same amount of waste.
This of course isn't the case, we drink a lot of water and water the lawn and plants etc. so surely the amount of sewerage would be less? Is this a loop hole/are they taking the mick or am I missing something?

I don't know what water company you are with, but Wessex Water assumes that 95% of the water used is returned to the sewers.
Oh, and that water you drink… eventually makes it to the sewer… if you know what I mean.

No domestic supply has a separate meter for sewage volume.
While some water companies reduce it by a small percentage, others treat sewerage to be the same volume as supply.
It's all academic; if they reduced it by 10%, say, they'd just increase the price per cubic metre by an equivalent amount to balance it out.
